Southern California - Young riders in Los Angeles

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey guys, I'm in my mid 20's and pretty new to riding. I'm looking for other young riders in the Los Angeles area. Please hit me up and lets chat.

Any particular reason they need to be young? I'm in my late 20's and some of my favorite riding buddies are in their 50's and 60's... probably because I can beat them :D
Anyway, check out the San Fernando Valley Bicycle Club (www.sfvbc.org). You don't have to be a member to do their rides, and they have ride options from short and easy to long and hard. Very friendly and of all ages, too!

Just get yourself a (gasp!) fixie. Some skinny jeans and v-necks and you're hip ;)
I'm blessed to live <10 miles from the top of the SGRT (though I'm not taking advantage, but that changes today!)
Lots of riders around here, just go to a shop and ask around :thumb:

Don't listen to this old geezer. He couldn't handle a tandem with a slow Cat 4 stoker in a big fast group ride if he tried.
Saw this the other day and looks interesting if you want a more relaxing riding day at the beach:
Attention beach cruiser and balloon tire bike owners. Are you interested in going on group rides in Santa Monica and Venice Beach? We are a cruiser club but all bikes are welcome to our rides. My name is Mike AKA Skullman and I am the president of the Westside Cruiser Club and I would like to add you to our e-mail list of 60 members so you can join us on our bike adventures. We are a relatively new club and have held a Friday Night booze cruise and a couple of Saturday and Sunday rides. We always have a blast and the club is a great way to make new friends with similar interests. If you would like to join us please contact me a jetskidood@yahoo.com or call my cell #310-210-9526

20, turning 21 in December. I'm in the LA area. But I've been running instead of riding because my bike needs a few things and being a poor college student can't afford them at the moment.

What specifically does your bike need?

New chain and Park BBT9, the bottom bracket is making noise. It's done it before, last time the shop just tore it apart, cleaned, and lubed and that fixed it. It's probably from the rains and the water. Which is what the issue was last time.
I'm going to order the stuff tomorrow. :thumb:
Not going to ride this weekend though. Plus a little cross training is nice to work different muscle groups. My calves are sure feeling it.

OK cool, I just figured if you voiced your needs, there would be a possibility that someone out there would have a spare or something they wouldn't mind donating.

well, are you anywhere near long beach?
lets see, there are weekly rides almost every night around here.

that's a link to lafixed.com, specifically that's a ride i'm doing Saturday with a few friends. me and my friends are early 20s... or pre 20s... like 19-21.
i don't mind who i ride with as long as they are cool. age shouldn't matter. but if you're looking for a more social ride, i guess having people your own age helps with relating relevant age related things like school.

The LAFixed crew are pretty cool and tend to be young.
Personally, I ride with people from 17 to 70, I don't care as long as it's fun.

Rick rode with them on a regular ride, as I did. What do you roadie/hipsters call it, "sandbagging"?? :D

I don't think I'll be doing any nite rides for a long while, at least not until my patio and brick oven projects are completed and I have more time to relax and daydream about bikes again. :D

there's got to be a book on ray's work somewhere or one of the architecture schools libraries might have his archives. where are you going to school?
