General Cycling Discussion - Quick~ Help me choose: Reese, Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch?

which one do you use? i have a honda civic and although all these manufacturers (Reese, Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch) make the hitch for my car (1.25" receiver).. but all of them are different in pricing.

now, is a hitch just a hitch? i mean how do you choose which one is the better one? they all look pretty similar in design and installation. can someone help me choose? i'm going to exchange my yakima mojoe back to rei for a yakima or thule hitch rack.

please share with me ur feedbacks, experiences, or recommendation with these hitch receivers & racks. Thanks~!

If all you will be doing is placing a bike rack on it, go with the least-expensive one which is designed for your car. They're all rated to handle much more than a few bikes.

I wouldn't just worry about cheap. If you are concerned about looks, i would worry about that. I think the Draw Tite is the best looking. You can see mine in the pics below.

Also don't get a class one receiver. Only get 2 or above. You will be sorry if you go with a class one.

class 2? i won't be towing anything except for just a bike hitch rack only. it's a civic so not much torque to begin with for towing... lol.

Basically just because the hitch can take the load does not mean that your car/SUV/ect. was designed to pull the load.
(sorry for the rant, but it is really bad in the horse community of people pulling trailers in small (narrow wheel based), underpowered SUVs)

oh shiznit.. really? :eek: then how come there is different pricing? so far it seems like the hidden hitch will be best for my car, because its not very visible from the rear.

I have a hidden hitch on my Mazda MPV. It is hardly noticeable, and I installed it without assistance in about 45 minutes.

Different pricing because they are for the most part operated as separate companies with separate manufactring facilities, different labor pools, packaging, etc., although some of the hitches are made in the same facilities. The parent company owns a ton of towing related businesses. Not unlike GM with chevy, pontiac, buick, etc. Just a sign of the times.

sweet... thank you guys for all your help. i just called hitchmart.com and the owner, matt, was kind enough to take my order considering it's 10pm there. can't wait to get my hitch receiver.. then I can bring my yakima mo joe back to rei to get it exchanged to a hitch rack instead. i got it for $109 shipped. sweet considering other places charges $22-$32 shipping. :D

now my next question is... what kind of hitch rack should i get? i'm looking for either 2 or 3 bike rack. any suggestions???
