I just got the Edge 705 and rode with it for my first time today 100 miles. About 15 miles into my ride at the first steep climb I went to my 2nd screen to see grade and total ascent. Both were 0 along with descent being 0. This stayed the same for the entire 100 miles. The elevation was reading correctly though.
After coming home I uploaded my ride of 100.1 miles into Sports Track and it shows I only rode 67 miles.
What's the deal with this $500 ***. Send it back or what?

That is one reason I always have the display set to show grade;
If I look down and see "__" for the grade, I know I forgot to start the timer.

Nope, the timer was running. Took me about 6.5 hours and shows I rode 100.1 miles on my ride.

What version software are you running?

It's showing version 2.1 on my Garmin. Sports Track is current.
Why is it not showing my grade?
Also, only transfering 67 miles of my ride. My ride history on the Garmin shows it was 100 miles with average cadence, speed, etc....

Current sw for the 705 is version 2.90.
I would suggest installing it via the WebUpdater:

I've had that happen at least six or seven times. The unit appears to be functioning fine in other respects, but the elevation never changes and the percent grade is stuck at zero. I heard that it could be a problem with a bad altimeter.

Call Garmin support with that one. It should be displaying the altitude correctly

If you have it set to 1 second recording with version 2.1, recording is capped at 4 hours, if you upgrade to the newest firmware, it will record as long as you want.

Sounds like you have had two things happen on your ride from what you are describing here.
1. The Edge shows you rode 100.1 miles but when downloaded the history file only contains 67 miles. This appears to be indicating that the history file from the ride is corrupt. This was an issue with early firmware releases and has been corrected for the most part. As mentioned by Shimagnolo use Garmins Webupdater to ensure your Edge is running the current firmware.
2. The grade not showing and ascent/descent not changing are a bit more of a mystery. About once or twice a year mine will do this for one ride and then be fine. Others have had this happen and never return to normal. If it happens again definitly call Garmin as you have a faulty unit.

That's the problem with the transfer of 67 miles. I've upgraded the software but still not sure about the grade problem.
