Was hoping today was going to be the day that I would have an official metric under my belt. Signed up for the Richmond Fire Department's 3rd Annual Fall Fifty in Northern Illinois, near where my parents live. Was going to do the 62 mile ride and have been looking forward to it for some time now. Now I have done longer rides but never an organized one.
It probably would have been great except we got there at 7:15 am and the temperatures were still about 25 degrees out :crash: , so me and my riding partner headed out, and got to the first rest stop which was about 12.5 miles out, when we decided that we probably weren't as prepared as we thought for the such cold weather so instead of continuing out on the 62 mile ride we followed the 26 mile route instead.
I did come to a realization today though, as we were climbing the hills that we did encounter, I just kept looking forward to the next climb. I think that was the first time I actually enjoyed climbing hills :thumb: . When we were at the first rest stop a guy who was much smaller than me came in very out of breath and was asking the people if the hills only got worse from here, made me feel good about how I wasn't out of breath and I really liked the climbs. The route was beautiful and we kept the route map so we can go back when it is a little bit warmer and ride it again.
