Road Cycling - BBC4 cycling night, Mon 2nd August

Don't know how many folks here are able to receive the BBC4 channel, but they are having a cycling night this coming Monday. It will feature "A Sunday night in Hell", a Storyville documentary of the 1976 Paris - Roubaix, and "Belleville Rendez-vous" the animated feature by Silvain Chomet released last year to considerable acclaim.

Koffee - I don't think so - but i have not been able too check BBC America listings, and that channel seems to follow a fairly strict & predictable pattern.

Funny, when I'm in the USA I find BBC America somewhat odd, mostly because many of the programmes were not originally made & shown by the BBC. Neither does the output represent particularly good UK TV (a rare commodity in any case)- In my opinion it could be a much better channel for very few changes, such as showing the cycling stuff.......:)

Funny thing- I feel the same way when I'm in Europe watching the "American" shows! 90% of the crap you guys get are stuff that was either made to be shipped abroad, cancelled immediately due to bad ratings, or our lowest rated shows that get broadcasted on odd stations or at odd times of the day/week. I guess we get your lows and you guys get our lows in turn? Tit for tat, I guess! :D

I enjoy watching a couple of shows every now and then. I'll be watching BBC America news and then a show comes on after and I'm too lazy to change the channel, and I'll get something that interests me. I really like that show "Coupling". It's a smart comedy, fresh ideas, and funny as hell. I know it's not new, so I'm hoping at some point soon, I'll be able to find a DVD with the old shows.

It would be nice if they also did cycling too- we'd get twice the European cycling with two stations broadcasting cycling races in Europe, and that's all good in my book.

Bellville Rendez-Vous, called The Triplets of Bellville in the USA, is a wonderful movie. While cycling is important to the plot, it isn't the whole plot. Turn your comprehension knob up to 11, there are only 2 lines of dialouge in the whole movie.

The dog's dreams were absolutely fabulous!

I used to watch BBC America all the time when I first came over to the US but now it just seems to be endless gardening programs, home improvement programs and graham norton shows from channel 4 from two or more years ago. About the only thing I watch is The Office and I've not watched that since I caught the christmas finale special the last time I went home.

TV cross-pollination is a wierd and wonderful thing - they tried to remake Coupling for US TV using the same scripts, albeit toned down for the more 'sensitive' local audience, and using american actors/actresses. I think they cut the show after 2 or 3 episodes due to low ratings. Some shows click in the US but don't click in the UK and vice-versa - I'm told that Benny Hill was popular in the US for years after it was taken off UK tv.

The best old BBC comidies seems to be on public television.

Coupling in the USA was terrible. The reason why I really like the BBC Coupling is because generally, the British are labelled as more reserved, and when they come out with these really smart comedies, it makes it more hilarious to me. British humor seems more tongue-in-cheek (in MY opinion), and a bit sharper. I love Ab Fab- they are just hilarious from start to finish, but if they tried to redo it in the USA with US actresses, I cannot see how they would pull off what those women on the show do. There is just something about British humor, and when they really get in some good comedy, it's hilarious.

I have noticed that BBC does a aweful lot of home improvement and "reality" type shows. I don't tune in normally for that stuff- I just check in every so often and watch the occasional show, like The Office, Ab Fab, and Coupling, along with BBC news. I will keep checking for the cycling night. If they have it, I'll definitely tape it!
