Texas - How Many Mixte Riders are in North Texas?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My first mixte will be finished sooner than later and I know a few of you own one too. How many of us are there in North Texas? It would be cool to have a mixte meet and ride around white rock or something like that. Of course anyone would be welcome to ride whatever they own but an emphasis on mixtes would be cool and has not been done before that I know of.
How many of us are there?

WTH is a mixte?
A style of lady's frame in which the "top tube" consists of a pair of small diameter tubes running more-or-less straight from the upper head lug, past the seat tube, and on to the rear fork ends. A mixte frame thus has 3 sets of rear stays, instead of the usual two. A variant on the mixte uses a single, full sized top tube running from the upper head tube to the seat tube, but retains the middle set of stays. A lady's type bike that lacks the middle pair of stays is not a mixte.
Mixte frames are stronger than conventional lady's frames, particularly in resisting the tendency of the seat tube to get pushed backward in the middle when ridden by a heavy rider
In French, "mixte" would be pronounced "MEExt", but normal U.S. bicycle industry pronunciation is "MIX-ty".

Ok, so there is at least two of us :-) And yours is slick!
Here is a great thread in the C&V forum that shows some really nice mixtes

Thanks. Up close, the rattle-can paint job shows some serious wear and tear.
DooHickie should be jumping in here, soon.

Heads up for any locals (DFW) wanting a mixte.
I saw one at a yard sale, over in my neighborhood (NE Dallas--Lockwood area). It's in the 2600 block of Barnes Bridge Rd. His driveway is full of used/beat up X-Mart bikes. You can't miss it.
It's a black Peugeot with drop bars and Suntour components. I'm guessing it is from the late-70's to early-80's.
The components are in pretty rough shape and the frame's paint has a lot of oxidization.
I'm 5'11" and it appeared to be a little bit small for me.
Anyway, he's asking $35 for it. I don't know if that is a negotiable price or not.
