Triathlon - Bar end help

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a jamis ventura sport and i know this may be a dumb question but what type of bar end shifters would i use on this bike. Thanks in advance

It depends on the number of cogs on the cassette (on the back wheel hub).
Assuming your Ventura is a shimano 9-speed, well in that case you will need, for indexing, a set of 9 speed Shimano bar-end shifters. Or a set of 8-speed and use them in 'friction' mode. If your front crankset is a triple, well you'll need a triple bar end shifter.
I have seen Sram grip shifters for 9 speed tri bars. These work fine, are unfashionable, and rare.
Another option is to get 9 speed down tube shifters and adaptor pods (from Rivendell I think) for the bar ends.
If you have Sora STI shifters I wouldn't bother though as the little buttons for downshifts are an easy reach from the aero bars, and convenient in a tri/TT application. Save your cash and get a FF seat post instead.
Hope this helps

Unless you upgraded, you are running Sora equipment.
