I'm currently trying to decide between the 2009 and the 2010 Trek 7.2 FX. The cost difference is about $75. From reading the forum, I see that the 2010 7.2 frame has been upgraded to the alpha black, but what exactly does this mean? This is my first "real" bike, and I'm just using it for low key commuting, getting around town, and maybe the occasional moderate length ride. Is the upgraded frame worth the $75 difference? How do the weights compare between the two?
Thanks!
the '10 is lighter than last years model. for $75 difference, i'd go with the '10 since it's a lighter frame. this way, in the future, if you wanted to upgrade your bike, you'd have a decent frame to begin with.
either way you are getting a good bike. if weight is not a concern for you and money is, go for the 09. you can probably haggle even more on the 09. my local bike store had an 09 7.2 for $420 and i think they would have gone lower if i really wanted it.
getting the 09 would be cool too since you could spend that extra $ on a helmet, bike pump, or whatever you wanted to add onto your bike.
choice is yours.

I'd go for the 2010 7.2 with the Alpha Black (butted) tubing, and not look back.

For "only" a $75 discount, I'd go with the 2010. I just bought a '09 at closeout prices at about a $170 discount. SOME of the 2010 models have the same MSRP as last year but lesser components, but that seems not to be the case with the 7.2. I have a 7.5 that is great!

Thanks all! I ended up getting the 2010, and took it out this weekend for a 35-mile ride on mostly paved roads, but with some dirt paths. I'm loving it.

I'm in the same situation but I can save 120 dollars with the 2009. For 75 dollars I would also probably jump on the 2010 but for 120 I don't know.
