McEwen not on the dotted line yet
By Jeff Jones

Contrary to what was reported report yesterday, Robbie McEwen (Lotto-Domo) has not yet signed a contract for 2005. The Australian sprinter told Cyclingnews that he is "still negotiating with several teams and is taking his time to assess all the offers before putting pen to paper with anyone."

McEwen did say that he wanted a beefed up sprint train, which helped him to two stage wins and overall victory in the green jersey points competition in this year's Tour. He wants to "ensure the future of teammates Vierhouten, Marichal, Gates and bring Henk Vogels on board as well."

The contracts of Peter van Petegem and Serge Baguet have been confirmed, and it's almost certain that Wim Vansevenant will sign. However, with riders like Leif Hoste going to Discovery Channel for two years and Axel Merckx also talking to Bruyneel's team, Lotto's lineup for next year is expected to undergo considerable changes.

Very interesting. He had a great ride in this year's Tour!

Leif Hoste will always stick out in my memory for what happened in Paris-Roubaix this year with that Lion of Flanders flag.

So, Is Discovery beefing up its classics team?
I hope so, it would be good to see them being
really competitive in the one days.

Axel would certainly beef up their media exposure. The cameramen at the races in Switzerland were scrambling and fighting to get pictures and airtime when he would ride. Well... and he's a stone cold fox too, so I wouldn't mind too much.... :D ;) It would be nice to have some eye candy up there... :D ;) :p

So, Which bike would he ride? Trek or Daddy's?
Is Merckx bikes going to be incorporated into the Trek family?
(maybe to replace Le Mond bikes?).

Brings up some interesting questions.

Nah- I can't see Merckx allowing some American company to relocate his business interests. I also think he may want to keep his brand name appeal from being swallowed up by Armstrong's company.

It's only August and they are already in full preparation (for their roster) for the Pro Tour next year.
