Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone know the status of this event? I went to their website and it seems as thought they've let their domain expire (www.bikeacrossflorida.net).

That's Rick Flohr's site, and he is known to be a bit dishonest in his dealings. Some comments on the Active.com signup page lead me to believe that the event is not going to happen.

An article I found claimed that it was going to be put on by the Space Coast Freewheelers (who used to do it), but I don't know if it actually happened. There is no mention of it on their site http://www.spacecoastfreewheelers.com/.
The article (or blog post, I guess) was this: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_thechaingang/2009/01/sf-reclaims-bik.html

Space Coast Freewheelers did have a cross Florida ride this year. It was a one day event (in May, I think). I ran a SAG stop on the ride. It was a dawn to dusk ride from Cocoa Beach to Tampa Bay, about 200 miles. You had to be fairly fast to finish within the time allowed, or get pulled off the road at sundown (faster than a brevet, anyway). I think they will run it again next year.
There also used to be a tour event, similar to BRAG. I am not sure if it still runs, and could not find info on it. I'd like to find out about that one, if anybody knows.

I "own" a Permanent that runs from New Smyrna Beach on the east coast over to the west coast, along SR44. It's a little over 200km / 125 miles. Of course it's even shorter to ride across Florida in the keys :).
Yep, was done in May by Space Coast Freewheelers. Nice group of guys. Will be on in May again next year. Route was 174 miles. Nice time of the year to have it too.
