Texas - What are people thinking?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just goes to show that there are an awful lot of either un-informed or willfully ignorant and recklessly arrogant motor vehicle operators out there.... they act like children: the roads are mine, mine mine and the heck with what the law says....
Put any of them on the road with me and they'd pale in about ten seconds after watching a dozen cars and trucks whiz by while the operators read, put on make-up, play with their hair, beat their kids, etc....
The first time my cycling partner road with me (as a newbie) he was shocked at how few people he saw that were actually paying attention to the road ....

I've spent too much time reading those comments since the wreck. I've ridden for 15 years in Texas, and have been harassed only a handful of times. In fact, as a recent transplant to the San Antonio area, I've been quite pleased with the car traffic as a whole - I ride on low use country roads and by in large people give me plenty of room when they pass me. But when I did my usual ride today, those comments kept running thru my mind.....made me almost paranoid.

its texas and considering that rick perry downvoted the passing law (which would not have HARMED anything) people pretty much have the right to run over cyclists in texas "oops i wasnt looking , my bad"

ARGH. Why, WHY do I even read that crap? So threatening. "You knew it was a dangerous thing to do, so don't blame me when I run you over". Idiots. And the one who stated "a bicycle is just a pedestrian on wheels"? Seriously? Clearly that person has never traveled faster than 5 mph on a bike.
