does the bike need a new derailuer? is the one on it broken? if the bike has shimano on it now a Deore should be compatible.

Deore is a Shimano MTB group. There used to be just Deore and then Deore LX and Deore XT but I believe it's now SLX and Deore XT. Regardless, any Shimano MTB derailler from Acera on up with shift just fine. As you spend more money, they get lighter and a little more precise. For rear deraillers, you can spend as little as $20 for Acera to over $200 for XTR. Fronts are a little cheaper.
However, you should probably first answer why you want to replace the derailler(s).
