Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What's it worth?

Have an opportunity to pick up an NOS Fausto Coppi track frame and fork.

What would you pay?

I'm not digging the cable provisions or the Italian bb, 126 spacing, or the bottle bosses, but if I can get it for a good price I may think ab it.

I'm always skeptical of vintage NOS frames...unless there's a legit story as to why they were never touched.

Not that I'm saying that's the case, but it's food for thought.

I'm fairly certain it's authentic. Owner says he purchased directly from a collector/dealer in Italy. Check out the BB lug:

that looks real. to be safe, see if you can get serial #s & verify them.

It is real but it is not a track bike, it must be some weird-o special order or something. I would say that it is a time-trial frame but there is no rear derailluer hanger. Odd, that is for sure, it has two water bottle mounts as well

The fork is TIG welded 1" threaded. It's still in bubble wrap.

It has strange geo; squared seat tube/top tube at 54.5 c-c and a 27cm high bottom bracket.

Yeah, rear brake cable and two bottle mounts, plus 126mm spacing - it's a flip flop frame.

TreTubi means only the main triangle is Colubmus Gara and the other tubes are probably plain old hi-ten steel.

This is not a track frame. The question is, what kind of frame is it? I would guess that it was originally meant to be a SS frame or possibly a winter trainer for a track racer. At first I was thinking that maybe it was an old road bike frame that someone replaced the dropouts on, but there are no bosses for downtube shifters or anything like that, so I don't think that's the case.

What it's worth kinda depends. This could be a really rare, unique frame. It could be a custom frame. I think you should definitely ask over in C&V, though. BUT, regardless of how rare it is, I probably wouldn't pay more than $600 for it. tops.

EDIT: Just wanna say that I never ceased to be surprised by bikes. Just when I thought I had a thorough understanding of road and track frames, something like this comes along that I can't figure out...that's what's so great about bikes. It's not that hard to build a custom frame, and it's cool when you see one floating around and it makes you wonder exactly who built that frame and for what purpose.

It's a Coppi and these have been selling for a while. Pretty sure it's a road bike geometry frame and they just omitted some braze-on's and added rear track drop outs to an existing production model, the frames are being made for a particular dealer and not a normal production series. It's not a track bike. I've seen other Italian bike makers do this in small batches. I've only really seen this bike being sold on ebay in europe and he does try to sell many of them for the past year or two, he's sells alot on the British eBay. He want's around $1K and I think that's way too much but then again he's a seller from Europe where the conversion to the US dollar is pretty weak. I would think somewhere between $400 - 600 US for the frameset would be fair.

Personally I think it would make a excellent light town bike but you would need to be careful where you lock it. Remember it's a bit of a Frankenstein that doesn't conform to either track or road camps and maybe a bit hard to resell.

Unlikely, companies don't generally go through the trouble to make one-offs like that and cheap out on the stays. More like straight gauge 4130 no-name at worst. Unless of course its some kind of coppi rip off

Except for the name, GARA pretty much is no-name cheap 4130 straight gauge tubing; so the stays and fork are likely even cheaper. And there's no reason to think this is a one-off. Looks like a nice frame, just over-priced.

Fausto Coppi Single Speed frameset, NOS: the long dropot version of the superlight Columbus SLX-tubed Fausto Coppi road frameset. The lugs are cromed. The rear dropout is very long, so the wheel can be freely positioned, 28 mm tires will easily fit the frame, so it can be used for city single speed riding. The bottom bracket is 26.5 cm high, so even fixed gear cornering is no problem. Columbus butted Gara tubeset is very strong, but still quite light. Comes with silver-brazed steel Coppi fork. Size: seat tube (C-C): 47 cm, top tube (C-C): 50 cm, frame weight: 1880 gr, fork: 540 gr, head tube: 80 mm, BB: Italian, seat tube diameter: 27.2 mm, dropout: 130/100 mm.
