I have an orphan Campy rear wheel and am wondering how I can determine what kind of cassette will work with it. I can't see any markings on it but I believe it was for an 8 speed. The cassette body measures 35mm from the inner portion of the spline cut outs to the outer edge. The hub is spaced at 130mm. Is that enought to tell if it will match to an 8 spd cassette thickness?

I'm not very familiar with Campy so I don't know if their spline pattern has changed over the years like Shimano did with UG and HG. Any info would be appreciated. I'm thinking of using it on a bike with friction shifting. If anyone has a used cassette they don't need and want to sell send me a PM.

The 130 mm spacing is right for 8, 9, 10, & 11 cassettes but I think the spline pattern has changed since 8-speed. You may be able to replace the freehub, if needed, without rebuilding the wheel. 8-speed Campy cassettes are not that easy to find. Branford bikes is a good place to contact for Campy parts and advice.

I think an easy way to tell might be trying a 9spd+ lockring my 8spd lockring won't fit my 9/10hubs

Older hubs can still have the 9/10 spline, but with the smaller diameter steel axle and 26mm lockring threads instead of the newer 27mm threads and oversize aluminum axle.

Your LBS can determine this for you in about 2s. If it comes down to it.
