Can a Miyata 100 have Cr-Mo butted steel?. I am looking at this bike that is the right size for me.The stickers say "Triple Butted Cr.Mo Tubes". I am suspicious since this an entry level bike and I understand Cr-Mo is not entry level. Besides the stickers look newer than the bike. Sticker on Forks say "Manga Light Steel". Serial #: OE66270. Please help

Yes, the Miyata 100 can have triple butted cromoly. Mfrs often upgraded (and downgraded) frame material year to year, while keeping the same model number.

The 1986 and 1987 the 100 was triple butted cromoly, with a high ten steel fork. 1988 112 was high ten steel. So some of the lower end Miyatas were pretty good, there just is a lot of variation year to year.

Just realize anytime a label says "Triple butted CrMo Tubes", that also usually means everything else is a lower grade (some type of high ten steel). Mfrs were expert at clouding up their descriptions to confuse buyers.

For example, I have a 1987 215ST, considered their "bottom end" touring bike. Construction compares pretty favorably to competitors mid grade or higher models. FWIW: the 215ST weighs 26.8 lbs, the mid level 615GT weighs 26.6 lbs, and the high end 1000LT model weighs 26.6 lbs. The 1000 does have the much higher end splined frame. I think the 215ST is the best, as it came in a color that looks just like Celeste (OK, its not a Bianchi).

Check the vintage Miyata on line catalogs for details.
