Do i spend $261.00 on a garmin 305 with HR/CAD and Speed
OR
$399.95 for the 705 with HR

Not sure i would use the extra features of the 705 but they would be nice to have.

always spend more to get the options you want and always buy the highest quality. when I photograph family portraits and the mother asks if she should tuck her kids shirts into their pants, I look at her and nod my head. really if anyone asks if they should do anything I nod my head - cuz you know they have a reason to. one only regrets the things they don't do.

I recall reading that Garmin is releasing an Edge 500 'Real Soon Now'. From the description it sounded like something that was worth considering, and may be the reason why the 305s are so cheap right now. Looks like it's a high-end bike computer with no mapping/navigation capability.

If I followed that advice, I would be broke. I'd say always buy at the quality level that makes sense. I don't need a $400 bike light that has the same features as my $90 light but is of the highest quality. There IS such a thing as "good enough for the purpose" - it makes no sense to always go out and buy the highest quality of any item you can, regardless of the price. Buying ANYTHING is all about finding where on the price/quality/performance curves you want to be.
