I am relatively new, got a road bike 9 months ago, and have finally conquered the early injuries that plagued me from not being in shape. Now my girlfriend has gotten into it too. I have a Tiagra bike, she has a Sora bike.

I'm thinking maybe a component upgrade would be nice. Would this be a good use of ~$300 for us?

I buy Ultegra shifters, rear derailer, cassette, and chain to replace my tiagra equivalents, and we put these tiagra parts on her bike and junk the sora?

1. Will this even work? are these parts compatible? ie will these ultegras work with my tiagra front derailer/crankset, and will my tiagra rear stuff work with her sora crankset and front derailer?

2. Will this be worth the time, effort, and money, or should we just wear out our current components and upgrade later?

Thanks so much for any help!!!

Should work fine.

Is your GF bothered by the Sora? Can you tell the difference between Ultegra and Tiagra? The only thing I would miss between Sora and other groups is the front derailer trim adjustment.
Whether it's worth it is up to you.
