Moved this here to try for some opinions.

Do i spend $261.00 on a garmin 305 with HR/CAD and Speed
OR
$399.95 for the 705 with HR

Not sure i would use the extra features of the 705 (i can use it in my car) but they would be nice to have.

get the 705. You will not regret it. I love mine. If you get the 705 make sure you buy the US maps too. It is worth the extra cash.

I bought the 305 off ebay refurbished and I have zero complaints. I got it a lot cheaper than retail (around $150 w/ HR and cadence IIRC) and it came with a full warranty. Can't beat that!

^^ that's why I was going to recommend. I love my 305. I had the opportunity to upgrade to a 705 but it just wasn't worth it for my needs

305's have a design defect, most likely your unit will stop turning on eventually. Seems to of been fixed in the 705. I have a Edge 305 and all the accessories X 2, but waiting for the 500. Don't really need maps and stuff.
