Hi guys/gals,

I currently own and use a Polar S725X and am planning to switch over to the Garmin Edge 500 as soon as it's released. Having used both the old and new Polar straps (the 'soft' and 'hard' straps), I definitely prefer the 'soft' strap better-especially when wearing it every day, hours at a time. Looking at the Garmin accessories for the new 500, it looks like there is also a 'soft' and 'hard' strap option (the soft one being the "Premium heart rate monitor (soft strap) 010-10997-02" listed on the accessories page).

So my question is this: If I buy the bundle (Computer, Speed/cadence sensor, and HR strap)-which strap will most likely come with the bundle? A friend of mine has the 305, and has the 'hard' strap-does anyone know which strap comes with the 705 bundle (this may be a better indicator of the strap that will come with the 'bundle')? I guess I'm wondering if I'm going to have to 'piece' the package together, or if I'll get what I want by just buying the 'bundle'.

Thanks,

CCrew

going to be hard for anyone to answer this considering the 500's haven't seen the light of day yet...

send a message to Garmin?

The 705 comes with the hard one. As CCrew says though, no one know except Garmin right now since they are not out yet.

Right now the only Garmin device shipping stock with the soft HR strap is the Forerunner 310XT, thre reason being that it works far better when swimming, so I'd expect the hard strap to be standard with the Edge 500

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the responses and understand the the answers were 'best guesses' 'cause that's all I can hope for right now (given the details haven't been released yet). I do appreciate your educated 'speculation' though...

I'm looking forward to joining the Garmin camp. :thumb:

Out of curiosity, is that the same model (the only other Garmin model?) that uses the 'HR based calorie calculation'? If so, makes one wonder if there's a connection and if that may imply the soft strap will come with the Edge 500 bike computer? Also, since this will be a dedicated bike computer, they probably won't need to worry about the straps effectiveness underwater. :p
