so I've been mtb and road cycling for about two years now and recently started riding more urban things on my mountain bike. So just like every other aspect of riding, i need to buy something else and that is a bmx now.
been searching craigslist for a week or so and ive decided to get a (seemingly) good older bike, instead of a ****ty new bike.

Man I'm in the same boat as you! I actually ride the urban bike park with my son on the old MTB. not sure about that bike the picture sucks. BMX bike are just like any other bike you are looking to purchase if it doesn't fit its not worth it. Yu should do a search on adult bmx and reed up on the sizing and material needs for a large rider!
Honestly, I wouldn't buy it. Gary Fisher isn't a well known company for bmx, and just like specialized, tried to jump into the bmx market.
But when you look for a bmx bike, look for
1) Chromoly frame, forks, bars, cranks
2) Sealed BB and Hubs
3) Double walled rims
if you are between 5'10 and 6'1" or so, you will want a 20.5"-21" TT (Respectively)

Get something with at least 3pc cranks.

Well just because gary fisher isnt a good name doesnt mean its a bad bike, they are still a top class bike company.
Im prob gonna go check out the bike tomorrow in person, anyway to tell the type of rims with a naked eye?
also what is so good about a three piece crank that i "have" to have one? i was under the impression from bikes ive worked on that bmx are usually 1 piece
Crappy BMX bikes always have one piece cranks. One piece cranks are almost always Unsealed, and can not take the forces of heavy riding, and are notorious for bending. Even the really low end completes that DK makes have 3 piece cranks.
Three piece cranks are very strong, and if you have a good pair, won't ever break.

That looks like a standard mid school frame, most of them slopped down in the back like that in the mid 90's(just look at a gt performer, or even a haro from then) I wouldnt worry about it being to small, im well over 6' 3" and i still ride a 20", of course i cant sit down and peddle unless my seats all the way up.lol

well thanks for the input but ive decided that the best way to resurrect my bmx life from 8th grade is to buy a huffy off of craigslist for twenty dollars.
lol, if it breaks it breaks... and if it breaks, well i have good insurance
yeah im also a poor broke ass college student but are there any solid upgrades that are cheap and most effective to ****ty bikes?
A huffy won't be worth upgrading. It has aluminum parts and unsealed everything. I would rather have that gary fisher than a huffy.
What craigslist are you using, and i will try to find the cheapest OK bike that fits your height.
What's your price range and height?

I go to school in the middle of virginia and there are literally no listings lol
I realize im buying a horrible bike, but hey i dont really have any money and i want something more maneuverable so i can ride park. Thanks for the interest but I think im just gonna buy something that will hopefully last until after the winter and Ill have some extra cash. I will just buy a newer bike then if I get into bmx, otherwise its only 20 bucks and im perfectly fine with that.
thanks fellas but im gettin back to my cycling roots
