I might have asked this question before but I can't remember. My wife, sis-in-law and I are doing the metric. Anyone else going?

VMC is escorting me and my new friend on the short ride :p (more like he's shoving me along while he's sleeping )

I didn't know there was an option - I thought it was only a metric?

Anyway - I usually do this ride every year, but only if I have someone to ride with. It's too flat and boring, otherwise. are you definitely in? If so, I'll go see about signing up.

We are definitely in but I have to warn you that we may not finish. My wife and her sis have not ridden more than 35 miles ever. They just did the Nike Women's Half Marathon today so I know they have the stamina for a long ride but I don't know if they can handle being on a saddle for 6 hours (they are 9 - 10 mph riders). I hate to say this but I have a feeling they are going to get SAG'd in. I'd feel awful if we had to abandon the ride, leaving you to finish alone.

There's a 31 miler that we should've probably signed up for instead of the metric.

I might be talked into joining you... as long as you don't whine about how flat and boring the ride is while we're actually on it.

Does it sell out, or can we make a late decision? I'm not back from my European trip til next Tuesday, but should have recovered enough from jet lag by the weekend. (although I've been on a bike exactly once in the last month!)

Current long range weather forecast is good. My wife and I are doing this on our tandem. This is our last organized ride until April and we're looking forward to "flat" for a change.

It has sold out in the past. It is just about the last organized ride of the year, and they only allow 600 riders.

Tic-toc. :)

Last year Bikingshearer and I drove out to the ride dodging rain squalls. While the roads were damp most of the day, we never did get rained on. It turned out to be a very nice day.

I'm interested. What is the route like? I'd imagine it is relatively flat being in the central valley.

Here's the website. The course maps haven't been posted yet. They haven't cahsed my check either. I hope we're registered. We'll drive out there anyway.

Here is a route I found on Bikely that claims to be the Giro D' Vino.
It looks legit, with rest stops and wineries noted on the cue sheet.

Oh, and yes, I am in.

I registered on Active.com. Not sure if I can crank out the long ride, but we'll see. That 9-10 mph sounds about like what I could do. I can handle a Rans seat for that long easily. I remember some steep rollers out near the river, but the rest was mostly flat.

As ready as I'm ever gonna be
I've ridden 30 miles in the past few days...no hills of course ;)
My legs are feeling pretty good, I got those new shorts and I love them-they have made a big difference!
Taking the bike in this morning for her check up...can't wait to get those pedals on too.
How're you doing? Still going out tomorrow?

My wife and sis-in-law will still try to ride the metric with me but I've got an escape route planned for us just in case they have to bail. Looking forward to this event. I've never stopped at wineries during a ride before! How was the food last year?

If all goes well and the creeks don't rise this will be an auspicious debut for my Univega/Tiagra fixer upper bike. My first steel steed!

This week Bigbossman is going to help me slap the Tiagra triple group I have onto the Univega Gran Turismo frame I picked up from Craigslist.

It will be fun to ride something different after 12,000 miles on my Felt

There are always some no-shows. The ride web page doesn't mention anything, but try this guy to see if you can register on Sunday at the event.

The map for the 30 miler is on their website as well. You can plan escape routes off the 60 miler so you won't to do the entire metric. But, I heard this metric is just as flat as Foxy's so you might find it easy to do. ARBT has some small hills and a short steep uphill to the overpass/bridge near Folsom, if I remember corectly.

A Halloween ride sounds great... it's the "Hamilton" part that scares me. I need more modest climbs.

I'll be the old, ugly, fat guy riding the moving lawn chair. Probably have my Primavera jersey on. Might even wear bibs so I'll remember that I'm on a bicycle. If you blink as you pass, and miss me, that was me at top speed.

BBM's eenie-meenie-miney-moe routine for ride selection is always suspenseful--and all of his choices are good ones (I'm rooting for the Palo Alto this time.) I'll be tagging along with him in a jersey featuring a boy horse on a bike, girl zebra, and a lighthouse, riding a red Chesini.

I'll be on a white Tommasini - should be a veritable Italian steel fest! I'm not sure of the jersey yet. I'll figure out what feels right for the day when I leave the house at O'dark-thirty.

Try Grant's Park and then back down. You can get a good workout without going into the stratosphere.

This was a real gas! A great ride, fast and flat. 63 miles 3.45 saddle time for 16.8 average.

The first ride longer than 15 miles I have done on my "new" 25 year old lugged steel Univega. Ya know what? Steel does really ride nice, like grandpa's Lincoln, very smooth.

Met a few folks from BF out there today, It was nice to see you all.
