Are 29 inch tires the same as 700c? I see Gary Fisher bikes have a dual sport 229 that looks like a hybrid, wondering if they will work with 700c tires.

No, 700c tires are a smidgen smaller than the old 27" tires that we all used once.

Apparently, although "they" call 700C tires 29in, they're actually only 622mm - which is just smaller than 27in tires (which are 630mm.)

I made a tire sizing poster (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=58915) that you may want to check out. Generally, go by the ISO width for true measurements, as the others are often misleading.

I took the info for the poster from sheldon brown's site.

700c wheels (with tyres mounted and inflated) most often fall between 26.25 and 26.5 inches.

Yes, the 29er's use a rim with a 622mm bead diameter which is the same as 700C. A 700C rim with a big fat 2.125" tire comes in at about 28.7" which is where they get the "29"
