I've recently gotten back into riding after a long hiatus. I live in Central Massachusetts where winter temperatures are often in the teens and rarely single digits or even a bit negative overnight. My house does not have a garage, but I have a stand-alone unheated shed where I keep my lawnmower, snowblower and other lawn and garden stuff. I've used it as my bike garage over this past summer.
I plan to continue recreational riding throughout the winter on dry, not too cold days. Should I keep the bike in the basement or is it ok to leave it in the shed? My thinking is that once I start pedaling, all the lubrication will warm up pretty fast, but maybe I can cause damage in that first minute or two until things warm up? Also, my hybrid is aluminum but the road bike is carbon. Does the frame material come into this decision? The shed is more convenient, but I'll keep the bike in the house if that's better. Any thoughts?
