so i own a couple early 90s cannondale SR600s. both are/were 105sc 7-speed. the 91 has been pulling duty as a 1x7 commuter and the 90 is stripped down to the frame/fork/headset. the latter was purchased about two years ago from the original owner with less than 200kms on it. here is a couple of pics how it was before i took it apart:

i had been thinking about building it up with campy record -10-speed rear ergo shifted with a downtube shifted front der.

problem is the rear spacing is 127mm. being an older al bike is this an issue?

sorry, my question is can i re-space to 130mm?

There should be enough give in the stays to let you force a 3 mm larger hub into place.

You can't "re-space" aluminum stays. Aluminum doesn't bend like steel - it breaks.

I've put a 130mm rear hub in basically the same frame (Criterium 3.0 series from the late '80s). Took barely any effort.

Lots of aluminum cyclocross bikes are currently sold with 132.5mm spacing so the rider can use either 130 or 135mm wheels. Given that it's expected that an aluminum frame can accomodate 2.5mm, .5mm more is not much of a stretch (pun intended)

Most of the Cannondales I've seen from that era had 128mm spacing so that you could use both 126 and 130mm wheels. Damn those cantilever dropouts!

This was common in the early '90's when both 7 and 8-speed groups were sold OEM on the same frame at different price points. My '92 Trek 1420 came with 7-speed 105 but was spaced 128 mm and easily accepted a 130 mm hub when I upgraded it to 8-speed a few years later.

Just jimmy it in each time. Don't attempt to respace the frame. You'll be fine.

thanks for all the input, folks.

i actually have 3 complete 105sc 7-speed groups. one is partially on my 1x7. one is a spare. and one is for a build for my wifey. are those groups even worth anything? i mean, the components are nice but nothing really special, right?
