You ever get those? You know what I am talking about? Those portions of songs that play over and over and over and over and over.... again in your head. I got the new Wilco cd last week and there is this riff playing over and over in my head and I think the only solution is to jump off a bridge. help me please :)

Yes, this morning it was a stupid Chumbawumba track.
I can't find the electric drill to get it out of my head.
I'll never watch MTV again, thanks for reminding me.

if you HUM "The girl from ipenema (SP?)" it helps uncloud the mind. Just don't sing it. Heard this on NPR a few years ago and it works for me. Funny, ain't it?

I like planting them in my wife's brain. I wander around the house humming some annoying, but catchy little tune at a barely perceptable volume. A short time later I'll hear her humming the same tune and complaining that she can't get it out of her mind, and she has no idea how it got there. bwahaha.
'Dancing in the Show Tonight' by Ween or anything by The Wiggles are perfect for this

That's cruel but fun to do. :D Sometimes all one needs do is mention an annoying song and it will get stuck on replay in one's head.

Hell, I get whole songs in my head I haven't heard in years. The ENTIRE song, as if I wrote it. Drives me nuts.
I stop for coffee drinks and dinner at the same supermarket every night on the way to work. Whatever is on their muzak as I leave is stuck in my head untill I get to work and can turn on the stereo I keep there...

Does anyone find certain songs you hear during the day come back to you later on at night. My last year at school there I spent alot of time in the art studio where the radio was on. Say I was in about 12 someday and heard a song that song would start to get stuck in my head just as I was trying to get to sleep later. Its like the waited to haunt you later. Hapened every night for months

I love the girl from Ipanema (the song, I mean.) I don't mind getting it stuck in my head.
Sometimes, I'll wake up with a song in my head that really makes me feel good. Once, I had a song that stayed with me for hours. It would go away, then come back. At work, I stepped into an elevator and an old friend was there who looked at me and actually started singing that same song.

I've had "Breaking the Habit" by Linkin Park in my head for two weeks now. I don't mind (yet), as I like the band. What I find irritating is some ditty from someone I can't abide (Blink 182) rattling around in there. I use the television tuned to VH1 or MTV as my alarm clock, and it works very well; either the song makes me open my eyes to watch the video or it jars me into fumbling blindly for the remote (Blink 182).

Many software packages that you have to compile use a utility called "make" which reads a script called a Makefile. I once included a raw audio file of the muzak version of "The Girl from Ipanema" into my company's source code tree and modified the top-level Makefile to stream the audio out through the standard audio device. It made for interesting reactions from my coworkers when they went to build stuff.

Huh??
Huh??
I guess I should explain further. The upshot of it all was that as a result of what I did, when the software developers in my company went to compile and build our software package, a muzak version of "The Girl from Ipanema" would play through their workstation's speakers while the code was compiling.

Gawd you are a geek :)
can I do that when I get with apt?
165 I think it worked but let me explain. I cannot remember how that little diddy goes. I know the song but for the life of me I cannot remember it. Thats the thing about Brazillian music they don't even know what a major chord is :) And so that is the secret. A tune which you struggle with and cannot remember removes all ear worms ahhhhhhh I cannot thank you enough its been at least 5 days. Now where did I put that Wilco CD?

Ear Worms! Thank you!! I finally have a name for the annoying little beasties!!!
My latest one was "Seize the Day" which they sometimes play at church. It's pretty catchy.
The ones that really bug me are the ones I like but don't own any kind of a copy of. See, what I usually do is go play the song and sing it as loud as possible until I've scared it away! Works for me.

The best thing to do is to do that to your riding buddies around the bottom or a big hill or a long flat with a head wind. Then ride off! It's great entertainment.
:D
I have the muppets theme song, (from the old muppet show), playing for my ringtone on my phone. People laugh at first and then curse me when they can't get it out of their head. The ownder of our company heard it the other day and he was seen whistling it in the shop later on in the afternoon.
I woke up this morning with a loop of Under Pressure by Queen w/David Bowie. Just a part of it, where Freddy sings "Why can't give ourselves one more chance? Why can't we give love one more chance? Why can't we give love, give love, give love, give love......"
It's one of my all time favorite songs but this is starting to annoy me a bit.
I had Placebo's "Special K" running through my head the other day while mountain biking. It seemed fitting somehow... On the subject of the original meaning of the song, well, always tell ourselves that cycling's a drug and that it's highly addictive.
Coming up beyond belief
On this coronary thief
More than just a leitmotif
More chaotic, no relief
I'll describe the way I feel
Weeping wounds that never heal
Can the savior be for real
Or are you just my seventh seal?
No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Just like I swallowed half my stash
I never ever want to crash
No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Now you're back with dope demand
I'm on sinking sand
Gravity
No escaping gravity
Gravity
No escaping... not for free
I fall down... hit the ground
Make a heavy sound
Every time you seem to come around
I'll describe the way I feel
You're my new Achilles heel
Can this savior be for real
Or are you just my seventh seal?
No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Just like I swallowed half my stash
I never ever want to crash
No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Now you're back with dope demand
I'm on sinking sand
Gravity
No escaping gravity
Gravity
No escaping... not for free
I fall down... hit the ground
Make a heavy sound
Every time you seem to come around
No escaping gravity
No escaping gravity
No escaping gravity
No escaping gravity
