Cyclocross Racing - Recommendation for midweight bib tights for racing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's getting cold and I'm a wuss.

Still, I don't want anything too restrictive. I have some PI tights with the windstop on the front, and they definitely feel too stiff.

These are for CX racing, not long rides, so assume I'll be warmed up.

I wear Descente Coldout bib tights (without chamois) in the winter time. They do me just fine down to about 0F

Shorts and embrocation. The stuff really does work.

I'm a big fan of wool... especially for the transitional weather we have this time of year.

How long does it last?

With my luck, I'd rub it in my eyes by accident.

it's not your eyes you should worry about...

Just put it on while wearing latex gloves, peel them and throw away. I like embrocation but I really need some warmer shorts! Legs stay warm but my hips and jewels get cold!

Knee warmers or leg warmers if its cold and dry. Embrocation if its wet or snowing.

Well more than 45 minutes or an hour. Keeps everything nice and loose before and during the race, then after, it's kind of a pleasant heat for the next several hours. I tried it for the first time (a brand called "Northwest Kneewarmers (http://northwestkneewarmers.wordpress.com/)," medium heat) last weekend. It was dry and even a little sunny out, but it wasn't too warm and was a pleasant sensation before, during, and after the race. It seemed to kill a lot of the muscle tightness I usually experience after racing.

Just remember to put both your shorts and your chamois cream on before you touch the stuff. I actually left my chamois cream off because I forgot to apply it before the embrocation.
