I just want to say the first 30-mile day after a few months of pretty much nothing is a good opportunity to take stock of your fitness level and go "Oh..."

Well you didn't miss much last weekend! I stopped in Piermont and was able to wring appreciable amounts of water from my socks...I'll be heading out to either Nyack or Haverstraw early Saturday, depending on how I feel.

I was on the road at 5:30 this morning and it got light pretty quickly, I think I turned my light off around 6. It sure does get cold though - getting out of bed gets to be less and less attractive as the temperature goes down.

Yeah, I wasn't the least bit tempted because the rain is one thing but the rain and cold keep me indoors.

The morning sun showing up earlier is nice so enjoy it while it lasts; I've been considering doing an early morning run while the sun is out. It certainly is chillier out and for some reason the fall/winter mornings just feel lonelier even though they're no less people out at 6am in the summer but the warmth does have a positive psychological effect. This year I've decided to commute to work instead of the early morning rides because at least that way one part of my ride is during daylight hours.

I think time is more of a factor than distance. I spent an hour more than on the bike than I had in weeks on tuesday and came back with a very sore neck. Felt ok on the next days ride which was even an hour longer.

It was quads for me.

I had an injury after a 400K in June, and then I walked off my job and no longer have a 26-mile commute. Flash forward to November and... hmm.

Hitting PP for a few laps tonight starting at 7. I'm the slow guy huffing up the hill in a red wool jersey.

Today was one of those days where being in the saddle just didn't pan out. My legs weren't feeling it so riding into the headwind felt more like a task than a challenge, then the zipper on my favorite jacket broke so the zipper came undone. The ride back was dark and cold, then I got really hungry halfway home. Yep, just one of those rides.

You still riding the greenway on your commute. If so the next time you get really hungry half way home let us know how the food at Pancho Gringo's is. I hear Mexican food makes you ride faster.

Got out early this morning (brrrr!) for a test run of a club ride I'm leading next weekend.

The route hits all the switchback roads along the Palisades south of the GWB, and two in Staten Island.

The ride visits one of my favorite spots: Shippen Street in Weehawken. It's perched on the crest of the Palisades, just south of the Lincoln Tunnel approach. It starts out heading east, with a gradually increasing downward slope, so when you turn onto it, you get an unobstructed view of Manhattan, centered on the Intrepid with the cruise ships docked to the north.

You roll to the "end," and it makes a 90-degree turn to the left, descends a bit & makes a switchback to the right... and the surface becomes cobblestone. Still with that amazing view.

One more quick switchback to the left, and it's done.

Probably takes about a minute to ride down - but what a fabulous, unique way to spend 60 seconds.

Route is the red line on the left; Shippen St is the squiggly bit:

:roflmao2:

Mexican...mmmm...though I'm sure the "tailwind" I'll create will help if my legs aren't up to it.

Got my money's worth out of the great weather this weekend: 117 miles of test/scouting rides. On Saturday, out to Smithtown to check some items regarding Bike New York's L.I. Harbors Ride and Sunday to Glen Cove / Lattingtown area to confirm a route for a NYCC ride I'm co leading next week.

Great ride into work this morning, wish I had the day to spend riding. I'm looking forward to the ride home as well, shame the sun won't be out.

Nice ride coming into the city this morning though the southbound path is closed on the bridge so I had to deal with the stairs again to access the northbound path. I haven't ridden my Orbea in a few weeks so it was interesting noticing the differences in fit since the Orbea has me in a less aggressive position.

Welcome! Do you ride up Blvd East?

Usually right up River Road.

Usually right up River Road.

I ride up River Road as well especially now that I'm commuting to work, otherwise I ride up Palisades Ave when going up to Nyack/Piermont. It's been a lot of fun riding on River Road now that it's all been repaved, especially going down the hill just south of the GWB because I'd often avoid it due to the potholes and such.

I did a ride in Queens yesterday... From the Flushing Meadows Park to Fort Totten and back, 30 miles.

About 30% trails (Flushing Meadows Park, Vanderbilt Parkway Bikepath, Joe Michaels Mile), 70% roads, some with bike lanes (73rd Avenue, Marathon Parkway, Little Neck Parkway, Bay Street, Douglaston Parkway, Northern Boulevard).

The wind along the Douglaston and Bayside shoreline was REALLY biting. Definitely a more pleasant ride in the summer, but this route is my favorite in Queens year-round.

Pity there aren't many Queensers on these boards, judging from the posts..

60 miles today, from Great Neck to Cuba Hill Road, eventually to Motor Parkway in Commack and return. Only saw a few people riding, but was passed by one of the groups from the triangle in Little Neck.
