Where did you ride last, details, how was it...?

I did 4 laps in Central Park last night (54 degrees - 52 degrees)...wasa good exercise in my layering strategy for the winter...seemed good on top with a long sleeve pearl izumi thermal jersey, and a widking ski shirt underneath...probably could have used my light wind breaker on top...bottoms had my north face running pants on....pretty good there....

My feet - YOW! my tri bike shoes are great for draining water etc...but boy were my feet cold last night...ouch!!! need ot rethink that part

Today just did an hour spin class at the gym as I didn't have the time to get out to the park and I like this one teacher...

planning a nice metric century this weekend ...weather permitting

I've decided to replace my crack o'dawn rides up 9W before work with commuting to work which is a little over 28 miles. Last night I left my keys at home and my wife went out with my daughter to a birthday dinner so I decided to extend the commute home. I made it a little past Alpine Approach Rd before it got too dark to go further since I didn't have my light. The total commute was 46 miles and had a great time riding.

Inwood to Grand Central and back today, for lunch with a friend. Total mileage... I don't know, somewhere around 20.

I'm out of practice. A bus cut me off and I barely saw an opening door in time.

Also got interviewed about NYC cycling for Japanese TV around Broadway and 50th. I think I gave them more opinion than they needed...

I did my usual ride up the Greenway, from Houston to the Little Red Lighthouse and back down to Spring. 60 to 65 degrees and 21.8 miles (according to my Polar) by the time I got home. I just wore my Pearl Izumi knickers and Bellwether long sleeved waffle jersey.

Not one of my faster rides. There was a heavy police presence on the Greenway due to Obama's visit to New York. Wound up getting held in a couple of frozen zones, near the Javits Center and again at Houston Street so it wasn't one of my faster rides. Oh well. I guess that's just part of living in New York.

Last ride was the 1-mile bike leg of my commute this morning. It was... unremarkable. Which is a good thing.

Last ride other than one of those was Sunday morning - in that crazy rain, wind & cold.

I was supposed to lead an NYCC ride in Staten Island, which we cancelled. I was really bummed.

Around 9 it looked like the rain was letting up a bit, and I was really itchy to ride, so I bundled up & set off on my rain bike. Rode a massive tail wind from Jersey City down to the Bayonne Bridge. I could practically coast at 20 mph.

In Staten Island, I headed east, and did a series of climbs on Grymes Hill: Trossach, Oakland Terrace, Cedearcliff, Longview. And Douglas Road, which goes up Emerson Hill. Then Howard, up the back side of Grymes Hill. Fun, steep climbs. It ended up being a 2-hour, 26-mile ride, with about 2600' of elevation :)

Then over to the ferry terminal, and took PATH back to JC. No way I was riding home against that wind!

I was pretty comfortable for the first hour and a half of the ride; last half hour, gloves & booties started getting pretty heavy with water - not so good. That's when I knew I had to wrap it up.

Toughest call of the day was whether I would have hot coffee or a beer on the ferry. I opted for the latter...

If any of you are up for a quick spin up the Greenway to 181st let me know; I'm usually getting on the Greenway a little after 5 (5:05-5:10). I use commutes as training rides so I'm usually averaging in the low 20mph range and don't mind pulling all the way up so feel free to join. I'm on a blue/black BMC and have a Capoforma jersey on with a white/silver helmet.

Last night did a quick petfood run from Brooklyn to Union Sq Petco. Bibs under street clothes and a hooded sweatshirt. It was WARM last night, I was sweating like a pig.

Previous few nights I've been layering over bibs a short sleeve base, long sleeve shirt, jersey, arm & knee warmers. Cold to start out, but warms up quickly. My feet aren't cold yet...

I can only usually get in about 45 minutes worth of hill repeats circling Sunset Park.

Maybe though I think it was probably closer to 7pm. It was beginning to get dark and I really just touched base at the Lighthouse before heading back downtown again. There was some police activity going on- two boats in the water and a helicopter overhead.

According to the picture I took at the Obama blockades I was by the Javits Center at 7:26 pm.

Played hooky and corrupted one of my riding buddies to do the same. :)
Washington Heights to Nyack and back.
Ran into Trudy's Weekday Cyclists along the way.

It's a great bike and what really drew me to it was the fact it came with full Rival. The Bianchi I rode for 10 years came with Campy and I really liked the ergonomics of the shifters, something I missed when I got my Orbea since it came with Ultegra. SRAM's shifter ergonmics are perfect for my smaller hands and the shifting is pretty good, though I must say the Ultegra shifts crisper and this is after a lot of tinkering to get Rival's shifting just right.

was your bike locked up on the Greenway in front of Fairway this morning? I saw a similar looking bike as I made my way down to work; loved the tail wind which made going 25mph a lot of fun! The ride home will be another story....

Short ride - laps in Lincoln Park, Jersey City - late this afternoon on the rain bike.

It was:

+ not raining: 10 minutes
+ raining: 20 minutes
+ not raining: 30 minutes
+ raining: 5 minutes

Better than no ride at all. Gotta love fenders.

Leading one of the NYCC CT Shoreline rides out of New Haven tomorrow. Should be a glorious day - can't wait!

not quite the long ride I had hoped for, but managed 26 miles in Central Park this afternoon...I must be a glutton for punishment for riding in CP at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon with nice weather... but with the exception of the southern end of the park, it was mostly mellow and a perfect day to b on the saddle...

Did the 4 laps in about 122, so not bad for my inconsistent training as of late...going to the catskills next weekend, near windham.. looking for a nice 1-2 hour ride with a good climb in it (have to keep it short or the little lady will kill me :) )

Beautiful ride today, Brooklyn Heights up to Williamsburg, first time crossing the W. bridge which really was great, some slow riding on Lower East Side jammed behind a bus and garbage truck, then over on 11th and 13th to the West Side MUP, up to 72 St and back home.

Perfect riding weather really, 60 degrees, little breeze. Long-sleeve jersey and windbreaker up top, overdressed below waist with bike shorts, tights and lite sweatpants.

Gorgeous commute this morning! The sun was out, it was nice and crisp plus the ride down the MUP from 181st to 54th was really smooth; enjoyed the brisk 26mph run below the West Side Highway over pass.

Sunday at Noon - stopped by SBR real quick to look for some gear. It was a beautiful day out yesterday afternoon so I took full advantage. Went cruising with a tshirt and jeans on my Felt. I didn't feel like gearing up completely so it was more of a casual cruise and sights day. After SBR went down to 42nd to which it started to crowd up, looped over to 8th ave and back up to Columbus Circle and into CP. Took a few laps in CP at a real slow pace, just taking in all the lovely girls running. Had my music in and was taking cell phone pics of the NY Marathon Finish and the fall foliage. Spent about 3 hours out there before I ran home to start my sunday sports fiasco and the ultimate NY Yankees win into the World Series!

4 laps of CP today. Seem to have a slow leak in my back tire so I didn't feel like riding across the bridge. Looks like more of the same weather tomorrow so if I can get it together to change the tube I may do river road and maybe piermont in the morning.

Commuted back to Brooklyn from Penn Station on the folder last night, a little cool but perfect with a light flannel shirt. Some crazy rider with headphones was singing at the top of his lungs down 5th Ave in Park Slope (I encountered him from St Marks down to around Union). Entertaining, but his riding was erratic so I passed him when I got the chance.

Hoping to hit Prospect Park around 7:30PM tonight for a few laps, weather was incredible when I got to step out for lunch. Anyone in? I haven't been able to get in a solid ride for weeks.

Anyone have any experience riding up in the Hunter/Windham area? I am going up there for the weekend with the missus and another couple and want to get a couple early morning rides in...I can just wing it, but if anyone knows of a great climb or something in the area, I would be much obliged...the catch is I need to keep the ride to 1-2 hours

That's at the top of a tough but very scenic climb; same sign is at the bottom of the climb, too.
If you're at the bottom on a bike, your pace will be SLOW - but hardly leisurely.

In the background is one of those "truck going down the hill" signs, that says 14%.

Nice late-afternoon Halloween loop from Brooklyn Heights down to Coney Island via the Verrazano MUP, trying to beat the darkness and the rain. Fun seeing all the family groups trick 'n treating. Caught major in-your-face wind on the MUP, and then some drizzles.

Pretty warm, low 60s. Coney was odd, deserted -- practically only occupants were feral cats and ghosts of summer.

Back home on the Ocean Parkway MUP. Took a little detour on Beverley and Argyle -- I guess that is Kensington, interesting neighborhood with huge old houses. Then eerie ride thru deserted Prospect Park after dark.

The past two days have been great for commuting though the sun being down so early is a bit of a downer, but otherwise it's been fun. Yesterday's ride home was a good given the headwind up the Greenway but once I got to NJ I enjoyed the tailwind south which was great for the intervals I was doing down Palisades Avenue. This morning's ride was really nice, perfect Fall riding weather.

There was some serious wind on Saturday morning...I was jamming all the way up to Nyack, feeling really good about my average speed despite being soaked and soggy. Then I headed back South and was quickly humbled:notamused: This weekend looks to be great though!

I know, I'm hoping I can get a ride in to Nyack this weekend because I haven't had a chance too since I've been so busy on the weekends. The sun being out earlier is nice but my commutes home have been in the dark which I'm going to have to get used to again; I may just go back to riding at 5:45am since it's dark anyway but we'll see.

Well you didn't miss much last weekend! I stopped in Piermont and was able to wring appreciable amounts of water from my socks...I'll be heading out to either Nyack or Haverstraw early Saturday, depending on how I feel.

I was on the road at 5:30 this morning and it got light pretty quickly, I think I turned my light off around 6. It sure does get cold though - getting out of bed gets to be less and less attractive as the temperature goes down.
