Electric Bikes - E-bike rookie seeks advice

Hi all

After months of toying with the idea, I've finally decided to buy an electric bike but the big question is which one? I've been told lots of good things about the Kalkhoff Agattu but have also just found Wiggle's Technium Privilege which looks pretty similar...Can anyone offer any advice?

Very nice and different from hub motor setup. Seems more efficient. Never tried it, but would love to get my hands on it.

I bought the Pro Connect after quite a bit of research. It uses the same Panasonic system as the Aggatu. So far I am very pleased with it and it lives up to the review that A to B gave it: http://www.50cycles.com/pro-connect-electric-bike-review.shtml

I also test rode the Trek Ride+ with the Bionx system :http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/electric_bikes/# and found this very impressive. It was a tough choice between the two but went for the Pro Connect due to its good review and hill climbing ability but I could easily have gone for the Trek.:)

I don't see the Pro Connect available in the US?

I can vouch for the BIonX system. I have it installed on my Xtracycle, and the system runs like a dream, giving a smooth silent ride. The torque sensor is especially nice, where it allows for hands free riding, and instead you use you feet to accelerate and decelerate.

+1 for Bionx (well, maybe +.8?) Mine is on a Bacchetta recumbent, and that combination with the torque sensor is a joy to ride. It does "lock up" occasionally and require a restart by pulling & reconnecting a cable, and the support from the company is limited. But I haven't been able to find anything like it. (Apparently Trek agrees.)

A few questions:

-How much do you weigh?
-How much gear are you going to lug?(trailer maybee?)
-Is this a daily commuter, pleasure bike, or both?
-Do you own a bike currently that you enjoy?
-What is the terrain like in the areas you will be using the bike? Hilly, flat, bad roads, city ect...?
-What is your desired cruising speed?
-How much are you looking to spend?
-What is your mechanical knowledge?

As much information as possible. Its much easier to build or suggest an e-bike when you know exactly what the rider wants and needs the machine to do.
