Last week I took the Delta Airlines connector flight from Miami to Key West where I live. If you want to go anywhere by air from Key West you must first take a small turbo-prop to one of the larger Florida airports where real, full-size jets can operate. So I load myself into the turbo-prop and find myself seated next to a white-haired elderly woman. Twenty seconds after the wheels are up, here comes the flight attendant offering peanuts. I take none and the white-haired lady says no. Next the attendant starts down the way with some kind of cookie in tinfoil wrap. I wave her off. The old lady next to me shakes her head; she doesn't want anything either. Not two minutes later, here comes the dutifull attendant hawking drinks. Again I give her the wave off. But the old white-haired woman put her hand on the young attendants arm and draws her near. She said, "Sweetheart, I don't need any peanuts or cookies or drinks or anything. If fact, I think I could hold my breath for as long as this plane is going to be in the air."

I laughed out loud and the female attendant did too. The old lady grinned at me and after the attendant left she (old lady) told me she'd been taking this particular flight for years and had always wanted to say that. Miami to Key West by air is only about 20 minutes or so.
