This is my first electric bike build. I picked up a Goldenmotor (http://www.goldenmotor.com/) Front Wheel 48V 1000W Brushless kit off Ebay. I guess I will install it on the Gary Fisher since the Mongoose front forks are not wide enough. Also, the kit didn't come with any instructions so I hope I can figure it out.
Update: I am not gonna install on the Gary Fisher or the Mongoose. I have decided to get a Rear-Wheel-Kit and install it on my steel frame Bianchi mountain bike that my brother gave me.
Here are a few pics.

1000Watt, what's the name of the vendor you bought it from? Are they in China, the U.S., etc.?
Crimsonsnake, what brand of batteries did you get? Do they have a model number?
Inquiring minds want to know! :)

1000Watt, great! I'm seriously considering that kit too. My only real problem with it, is that it doesn't come on a 700c wheel for my Trek 7500 hybrid.
Can you tell me a little about the parts? (I can't see the pics you put up, sorry, d*mned firewall at work)
1.) Is there a make or model of the motor, visible on it or in the documentation (if there's any documentation)?
2.) Is there any indication of how many amps the controller can handle? Is there a make/model for it?
3.) Is there any performance data in the package? A chart of volts, amps, torque, RPM etc. for the motor?
Thanks!

It doesn't look like you got torque arms. Also, if the bike you're going to install it on has an aluminum fork, think twice about installing it on the front fork. The drop outs on aluminum forks are cast and can fail without warning due to vibration from the hub motor, and the vibration from that motor will be greater.

You can order torque arms online. It's a worth while investment for your health and safety. Good luck.

The only numbers I see on the wheel hub are: HBS-48V 1000W09070371 It's a Goldenmotor (http://www.goldenmotor.com/)
There are NO markings on the controller but I see the controller listed here (http://ampedbikes.com/accy.html) and it looks to have a rating of 36-60V 22A-35A max.
The thumb throttle is marked 48V
It also came with a 48v SLA compatible smart charger Model: EC003/448
Looks like a good kit for the money. I just need to find batteries for a good price on ebay...

Thanks, yeah I have been reading here about the danger of this... I just checked with a magnet and the forks and frame are aluminum. Being that the rear is aluminum too wouldn't there be a problem with a rear drive also? I think I might go to Walmart and buy a Cruiser with steal forks to do the install on :thumb: I dont want to be going 30MPH and have something fail :(

My kit came with a 'Pedal Assist Sensor (http://www.crystalyte.com/elekits%20large.htm#Pedal%20Assist%20Sensor?)' and a thumb throttle. Do I really need the PAS? Can I just not hook it up? If installed does that mean the electric motor will only be engaged only if I pedal? What if I want to cruise on electric power without pedaling? I am a little confused :(
Thanks

Ah, got it, crimsonsnake0. Thanks! Those are apparently made in the UK, so shipping costs to UK locations is low. But for us poor shlubs in the colonies, it becomes pretty high.
1000watt, I tried an electric bike yesterday that had a pedal-assist sensor. I did what the salesman told me: Set the throttle to zero (no power at all), and start pedaling. When I got up to maybe 3-4mph, the motor came on (even though the throttle was at zero) and started pushing the bike. I was surprised and stopped pedaling, and the motor stopped pushing a few seconds later. I don't know if it would have kept pushing if I had kept pedaling.
Tried it several times (indoors, couldn't go very fast), and never did get to like it. I finally decided I would not use that on any bike of mine. I want the motor to push the bike WHEN I TELL IT to push the bike, and not at other times. YMMV.

Ok thanks, I understand how it works now :)
Hey what do you think of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Pack-for-RBC11-UPS-APC-SU2000-SU2200RM-20AH_W0QQitemZ200387284029QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_UPS?hash=item2ea8034c3d) 12V 20AH SLA batts they are selling (4) for $82.99 + shipping. Works out to $30.29 EA shipped!!! I just called around locally and the best price I can find is $59.95 to 67.95 EA. I did another search on ebay for 12V 18AH and alot more came up... I think I will try SLA my first time around, then maybe stepup to LiFePO4 someday, $$$ permitting.

I got the equivalent rear hub motor from YXMzone off ebay. I opted for a 500w 48v motor and I got a 48v 20ah lifepo4 battery. I also got a regenerative controller but haven't hooked it up yet as there is no instructions either. It was July 09 that I got the motor and battery and since then I have put on about 800 kms. It would last for 70 kms on a single charge. It came with a 3 amp charger.
All was going well until a puff of white smoke came out of the charger on Sept 18 and stopped working. I sent it back on warranty. 4 weeks went by and I hadn't used the bike so I ordered a 5 amp charger...they now discontinued selling the 3 amp and only sell 5 amp now. I finally got it and charged it up yesterday - 5 weeks later. I took it out and could not use it on full throttle like I used to. I now have to feather the throttle half way before the bms starts cutting it out.
My advice is to not let it sit unused for 5 weeks.
I will have to recondition it somehow. Any advice on reconditioning this type of battery?

You could open the pack and check individual cells to see if there's one that's really low. If so, you could try charging it individually. If it still won't accept a charge, then you could order an identical cell and replace it.

Ok, here's an update: I test fit the rear wheel on my Bianchi and noticed that I will need to Dish the rim to get it to fit centered in the frame. (It's Way Off!!!) I bought a second rear wheel kit thinking it might be better but it wasn't, (rim not centered). So if anyone buys one of these Chinese kits off ebay you will probably need to dish it.
I have never dished a rim before so this is gonna be a learning experience. I am gonna dish it on the frame. I am just gonna start with loosening the spokes on the close side 1/2 turn then tightening the spokes on the other side 1/2 turn.
Oh, also, I think i will use 2 torque arms from here (http://www.texaselectricbikes.com/catalog/torque-electric-motors-p-228.html).

I dished the rim on the frame :) It took 2 turns loosen and then 2 turns tighten on the other side. (I did 1/2 turn increments). It's dead centered now! Hey, im pretty good, toot toot.

1000watt, great! I can't see the pictures due to a firewall here at work, but I'll look when I get home. Sounds like you've got it doing what you want, though.
Can you tell me something about the ends of your axle on the hubmotor? It has flat spots to help transfer the torque to the bike dropouts and/or torque arms, right?
What size is the flat area? That is, if you were to slip a perfectly-sized open-end wrench onto the flat part, so you could turn the axle with the wrench with zero slop, what size would the wrench be? 1/2-inch? 12mm? ...etc.?

Threads are 14mm and a 10mm wrench fits flat spots prefect. :)

Those batteries should hold up pretty well as long as you don't mind the weight.

Yeah 53lbs!!! I am gonna build a box and mount them within the triangle area, sort of like this:
Update: I decided to get a LifePo4 pack because the 20AH SLA's wont fit and they are too heavy.
