Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - how nice can your bike be before you turn into one of those ******bags

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

what makes your bike d-bagworthy? too much carbon? too many stickers? full campy or dura ace? full njs (for tricks?)??

I have Bud Light stickers on my Langster.

It's d-bag when it becomes a "fixie." Wads of shoddy, candy-anodized parts, brakeless, unwrapped handlebars, ridiculous saddle-to-bar drop, etc. If it's just a nice bike that someone showed restraint in building and took a little more time and thought with their aesthetics it's fine. I think a Campagnolo Record track group on a custom frame is going to look waaay better and be less jackass than Formula/B43s wheel, Origin8 cranks and a Pake frameset, despite the immense disparity in cost.

my bike is a pile of **** and i'm still a filled-to-capacity ******bag.

i think there's no limit, it just increases your ****** propensity, so it's more likely you'll turn.

no, see that's just it.... a custom frame with full campy record. we're not talking jackass, we're talking d-bag. and why can i say jackass but not ******?

i'm a dewchebag, but i ride rattlecan beater conversions. is there a single high end part that can lift one to the highest level of dooshbaggyness? if so, i want.

in my opinion the slippery slope comes when you start placing style before function.

and then dooshbaggery is when you completely disregard function altogether.

hipster-ism is when you walk your colormatched-to-your-dunks-bike everywhere, instead of riding it.

jesus-christ-that-is-mentally-handicapped is when you do bmx tricks on a fixed-gear bike. (my personal opinion)

i so place style before function. but i ride my bike at least 10 miles a day

I agree, which is why I carry a BMX folding bike in my messenger bag whenever I ride my fixie, in case I get a dozen miles in and decide I wanna do a wheelie or hop a curb or something.

Doing either of those things on a fixie is stupid, so I bust out the BMX folder and everyone wins.

Anyway, you turn into one of those ******bags when you start caring what other ******bags think. It's really as simple as that. The exact same bike owned by a different rider can produce an entirely different result, depending on why they own it.

If it was not for the cost I would love to have a full carbon with campy everthing, oh and logo stickers everywhere. Why?
Because I don't give a rats a$$ what people think of my bike and how I look on it. Honestly are you really that concerned about image

But, obviously, everyone says that, including the ******bags.
The difference is whether or not you mean it.

Doesn't that pretty much include everyone on this forum. Apart from me because I don't care how much you dewsh-bags hate my bike!

I was disappointed nobody put my bike in the jackass thread. I guess I am like a Sith lord and feed off your hate! Thanks Adrino, you filed me up when I posted about how my Spinergy's hadn't exploded.

I just ordered gold Weinmanns...got a problem pal??? I bought the wheels because "I" like the way they look and really don't give a **** what anyone else thinks. Basically I'm new to bikes, got a Kilo TT, trying to upgrade it a bit, and having loads of fun during this process. I'm not trying to play the role, be part of any scene, impress anyone, or win a race. I just truly enjoy riding a bike...period!

i think they way i've built up my capo is pretty nondescript - it doesn't really stand out in a crowd. now that i think about it kind of still looks like the stock bike, even though everything has been replaced. but when you look at all the parts and add up the cost of those parts it becomes pretty ridiculous (although i did get good deals on a majority of them). I'm pretty sure my capo is the only one like it because no one would be insane enough to build it up and spend money on it the way i have. does that make it ******baggish?
