Bicycle Mechanics - Correct Bb for Shimano 105 170mm triple crankset?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just ordered this one (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CR293B03-Shimano+105+5603L+Triple+Crankset.aspx).
For the Bb, my LBS says the Ultegra 6600 (http://www.lickbike.com/productpage.aspx?PART_NUM_SUB=%270228-13%27) is compatible. I just don't know if I need the 68mm (English) or the 70mm (Italian). I'm new at drive train specs.
Thanks a ton.
What bike are you running? Most BBs are English thread, but Italian manufacturers tend to be loyal to their country's standards.

Ah, sorry about that. It's a 2004 Bianchi Axis, which came with:
- Sugino XD-500D crankset
- Cartridge Bb, 107mm spindle, 68mm English shell width
This bike was made in Taiwan as far as I know.
Thanks.

Give some thought to getting rid of the 30 and replacing it with a 24T. The reason for a triple is low gears. You may not need a 24-27 , but it is nice to have when you do need it.
The index shifting won't be as slick, but with practice you will find how how easy it is.

The OP hasn't said anything about needing a lower granny gear. A 30-27 combination usually low enough. Going from a 30 to a 24 is a huge change and can cause shifting and dropped chain problems.

+1 Wtf?
The new Ultegra 6600 Bb and 105 crank set are working like a charm. I also ended up getting a new Deore XT cluster; I figured for another $68, what the hell. Shifting is super smooth and crisp. This is definitely an upgrade.
