Living Car Free - Want to Get Public Bike Sharing in Your Town or City?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do you like the green / health benefits of cycling, but are concerned about the safety of biking in your city? Would you like to see your city made more safe and convenient for cycling? If you care about bicycles and the urban landscape (and we hope most of you do!), then be sure to JOIN US today at 3:30pm est to talk to Boston Bike Czar Nicole Freedman. We’ll be discussing Boston’s new bike initiatives, including the new bike sharing program - which will put 3000 rentable cycles on the streets of Boston to enhance public wellbeing.

I'm still pretty jealous that Boston is getting a bike sharing program and NYC is not, but we can definitely find out how to go about getting one here or in any city by participating in this talk:

I've always wondered how bike sharing would work longterm. We don't have such a program in my community, but the local bike co-op does do daily or weekly rentals and that works out pretty good if you are travelling or need a bunch of bikes for an event. Also, the rates are pretty good, since the bikes are all used.

I thought this is the "Living Car Free" Forum. That means that bike access in any form should be discussed right here as using bikes might involve both public (bike sharing) and privately (yours) owned bikes when you want to ride. Personally I don't think that these programs would work anyways. People don't respect or take care of something that is "free" or "shared" in my view. Look at how men treat "cheap" & "easy" females for example.
