So, my friends dad just gave him this Eddy Merckx to encourage him to start riding...Lucky some of a B***h

I guess what we want to know is the year / model / origin of this particular bicycle. We know that the components are obviously not original...

These are the only photos I can supply at the moment, but I have told him to take close ups of the seat cluster, underside of the BB shell and any serial numbers on it (unless they are in the headtube).

Here are the photos :

Looks rattle-canned (skipping the clear coat /polishing bit). Tell your friend to get rid of that horrible threadless headset & stem too . The bike deserves a well-executed repaint and the right set of cyclomondo decals.

The headset looks like an old Mavic threaded headset to me, and it has a quill stem in it, not a threadless stem.

I stand corrected! Still think this kind of headset and (especially the) stem don't look right on a vintage frame though:crash:
Just my personal taste, mind you - to each his own, and so forth!

and NOT convert to a dang "fixie" or Single Speed classics like this deserve a restore; not a butchering. The Campy components very could well be OEM/Original, and probably are. Eddy rode with Campy Super/Nuvo Record when he was racing, so I would not be surprised if he Spec'ed them on his bikes, after all, he wanted the best to be associated with his name (still does, for that matter).
Your friend will also find when he strips the rattle can paint off, that the lugs are chromed, too.

Simplex "Retrofriction" shifters, too!

Those are worth hanging on to, especially if you keep the Campy derailleurs. Most racers who had a choice would ditch the Campy shifters that came with their bike and use the Simplex ones instead.
