Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - New bike wanted to share a “WTF” discovery

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So I have been in the market for a Track bike but came across a new 2008 Lemond Fillmore with a sale sticker of $650 yesterday. Now I know its not a Track bike but I’m a huge Lemond fan just never could afford one and also I have a Pista I can rig up for the Track so I bought it for $600 (after taxes.) Yes 600 out the door!
Here is my :wtf:discovery and what I wanted to share with everyone(after my long winded set up)

$1039 WHAT? Is the market really that different depending where you are? Because that is one heck of a big difference in price.

Most brick and mortar bike shops that carry major brands don't seem to use the internet very well (with a few very notable exceptions).

The bike is two seasons old so the shop most likely just wants to get rid of it. I would swoop on it if it fits you.

cool grats. I am kind of like you, if a good deal comes along i snatch it up. Had no plans on buying my last bike. Took my bike into get a tune up, shop owner offered me a killer deal. A week later I had a bike I never thought id have.
I'm the same way with frames. I like to keep a few hundred spared in case I run into something I can't live without.

Well I picked up the Lemond at my LBS! Haven’t rode it yet just carried. It feels lighter then my Pista giving that it has a rear brake this surprises me.

Juste getting into the SS/fixed scene it't interesting how heavy these bikes are compares to some road bikes but I guess alot of that is to do wit $$$ and materials used.

Also, roadies are almost always weight weenies that can't stand having a bike over 15lbs

At first I thought "WTF?! A few hundred frames?"

That was last year. Seven pounds (http://www.bicyclenewswire.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.showrelease&cid=158&id=687) is the new fifteen.
