The plan was to go down to Mystic Seaport, take some pictures, then do a ride over to Stonington, North Stonington, then back to Mystic. It was 72 degrees out! However, I've been burning the candle at both ends and accidentally slept late this morning. I got down to the Seaport, took some pics (The Amistad is docked right in front of you as you come thru the entrance.) but didn't have time to do the ride and get back to pick up my son from school........ Maybe next year!

From where do you begin your ride? Are you in the Mystic area? One of my favorite rides is from various starting points on Long Island, over the sound by ferry, into Mystic for some drawbridge watching and general laziness, onto Stonington, then to Narragansett to spend the night staring out at the water from the deck above the Atlantic House.
If you have a little extra time one summer day, continue your ride to Narragansett, stopping at Misquamicut Beach along the way. If you care to, take a room on the waterfront in Narragansett. They're expensive and disgusting, but the view and people-watching opportunities are well worth it!

Hey guys, southeastern CT area here too. I am about 5 miles or so from the new london ferry terminal. I start my routine from my home near ct college, head over the gold star bridge and out to avery point. If I kept going I would end up in mystic. Its only 18 miles round trip but I am still kinda new.
I hear you on missing out on rides. Tomorrow will be glum but hopefully I can still ride. Then a rainy weekend before its supposed to get real cold. :(

I haven't been out as far as Narragansett, but have been over as far as Misquamicut. I live near Hartford and will drive down, park in Mystic and ride from there. Excellent area. XYZ, I usually do 20-40 mile loops, keep it up and you'll increase your mileage.

>>>I haven't been out as far as Narragansett, but have been over as far as Misquamicut.<<<
It gets a little boring after that, as you're mostly riding the shoulder of Rt. 1, which becomes a highway past that point. However, in my opinion, Narragansett is worth a few dull miles.
Are you able to load your bike onto Metro North or Amtrak anywhere between the point due south of Hartford (I guess Guilford?) and Mystic? It's a pretty nice ride between these two places, so if you wanted to do it one way and then take the train back, that'd be a nice day out.
One of these days, you might also want to consider taking the New London Ferry over to Orient Point, Long Island with your bike. From there, there's a very nice ride across LI's two forks to the Hamptons. I'll give you the details if you're interested!
