Touring - rear rack mount?

Can anyone please tell/show me what the hell is missing from this rear rack!? I found it in the junk pile at my lbs, its rated at 50lbs so I figured it would be good enough for carrying groceries. :) but I don't know how it mounts to the seat tube clamp? I know theres a part missing but I need to know what it is and what it looks like to either buy or build it, any help would be appreciated. :thumb:

Second photo seems to indicate that the adjustable pieces are missing to attach the rack to braze-ons which you don't seem to have on your seatstays.
You'll have to jury-rig something from center of rack to seatpost or seatpost clamp to make it work.

Normally there would be a couple flat metal strips that connect between those slots under your rack to brazed on fittings on the seatstays. Since your bike doesn't have the fittings you should get some "P-clips" at a hardware store. Get some vinyl-coated ones that are the right size to wrap around your seatstays and then you can bolt a metal strip to each that has some holes and/or slots at the other end to bolt onto your rack. That should be more solid than connecting to the seatpost bolt.

Or flip the bolt around, so the nut goes on the outside.

I plan on putting the Dremel to it. :) I can't flip the bolt as the hole in the drop is threaded so there is no nut.
BTW, I'm having a hell of a time finding those "P-Clamps"! I went to home Depot and three local hardware stores with no luck! :(

Home Depot does have the P-clamps but they are in the electrical dept. not with nuts and bolts. A LBS should also have P clamps that will work.

P Clamps are normally used for holding wires and pipes in place inside and along walls, if you can't find plastic coated ones, you can use small pieces of used inner tube between the clamp and tubing.

well, so far zip, nothing, natha! been to Home Depot and all the local hardware stores, nothing! I even bought a picture I got off the net....nothing, they look at me like I'm mental or something! only one guy knew what it was and he didn't have them! :mad: I can get a box of 20 for like $10.00 plus shipping off the net but what the hell am I going to do with 20 "P" clamps!? all I need are 2!

go to the LBS they may have some.

OK! I found the "P" clamps! I also bought an aluminum bar and cut and drilled it to fit the rack to the stays, this is what I came up with, its very sturdy and very strong! I'm happy! :) Thanks go out to all that helped!
