Just working here for a few months and I have my bike. I'd like to find a 20-40 mile loop or out and back that is out in the country (read outside the city) on good cycling roads. Preferably with some rolling hills and scenery, and within an hour drive outside of the Metroplex. I'm bored senseless with Whiterock Lake near where I live, but, it's the only bike friendly route I've been able to find.

Any suggestions welcome. Weather is supposed to be superb this weekend, yee ha.

Cheers -D

Even if you can't make the organized rides, the route maps are good and traffic is light on the weekends.

Lots of cycling around this area of Richardson/Plano.
If you want to stay off the streets more the MUP from Mimosa and Campbell around UTD and down Renner isn't horrible....and if you cut up to collin creek mall you can bike the chisholm trail up to Legacy.

drive up Central (75) to Van Alstyne. Park there, head East and North on the backroads.

these are some awesome skinny little country roads, very low traffic, lots of small hills, twisty and turny, great scenery.

The RBM south route starts at WRL and goes out to Sunnyvale/Lake Ray Hubbard area.

Another is a ride out to Joe Pool Lake from WRL. Once you get past Oak Cliff it opens up.

You could go do the Springtown Spin this Saturday.
It is west of Fort Worth (northeast of Weatherford).
There are routes from 20-100 miles, and the terrain is rolling hills, lightly trafficed roads, etc.

Cheers for the suggestions. Will have to get out tomorrow while it's nice.

You can catch the Dart trains take them to the outskirds or take TRE over to Fort Worth.

If you look up there in this form, there's a "Texas Rides" sticky, and I posted a link to Dallas bike route maps that'll let you get around pretty good by bike in town.

Some of the routes closer to me go out East Fork Road and around the Mesquite airport, if you care to look them up.
