i was sizing a guy at the shop today for a madone 5.2. he's a bit of an odd fit, since his inseam is 79.5 cm and, according to cyrile guimard, that would put him on a 53 cm bike. of course, i would never fit a bike by vertical size alone, and the problem with the trek is the short top tube. this guy is 5'8.25" and has a rather long torso. sitting on a 52 cm 2004 trek 5200, he'd need at least a 12 cm stem, on a 54 cm bike, he needs a 100 cm stem [which is optimal, imo]. now, treks are measured to the seat collar, so a 54 cm frame measures about 52 cm at the top of the tt, and a 52 cm frame measures about 50.5 cm. the seatpost is a bit shorter than i'd like on the 54, with about 1/2 of the "b" in bontrager under the collar.

now here's the question about the lemond... he rides a 2001 zurich, which he finds too big. i haven't seen the bike, but i'd like to know what the dimensions were [they are no longer on the lemond site, and this year, the zurich has a sloping tt]. does/did lemond mesure to the top of the collar, the top of the tt or the middle of the tt? what's the standover on a 53 cm 2001 zurich? the tt length?

curious.

It's the same for the '04 all steel Maillot Jaune CLASSIC as it was for the '01 MJ and Zurich.
