Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

you cycle long and hard enough, it seems a day or two later, you can feel the burn in the calves and thighs. I do do a minimum of stretching. Sorta of a low key ache and somewhat annoying. Feel energy level is a little sapped, up until ready for the next ride.
I know no pain no gain. Does everyone feel this? Guess it is a good thing. Getting stronger, huh?
My Fall tour will average 80 plus mile days, with some pretty hefty grades. . Feel I must push myself. If you really push yourself, what must you recover with- diet or what.?

"The burn" is basically the sensation of your body knitting its muscles back together. When you exert yourself enough, you actually tear muscle fibres. 24-48 hours afterwards, your body begins repairing the damage. The good news is that, as it does this, it makes your muscles stronger. This is how you get stronger. It's a good thing. Love it. Embrace it.
Stretches don't help for squat.
