I went to the LBS today and put down a deposit on a K2 Mach 4.0. An hour later he calls me and says that he can't get any from the warehouse in Seattle for two months! Then he offers me a Fuji Team for just a few bucks more, not much. What do you all think about the Fuji Team???

Fuji Team is a fine bike but it's not the K2 you were hoping for. Did you test ride it and like it? What kind of deal did he offer?

I rode a similar K2 and really liked it. He was going to let me have the Mach 4.0 for $1200.

tell LBS you'll take the Fuji for the same price as the K2.
Bet they'll go for it!

An '04 Fuji Team for $1200 is a great price.

I might be stupid, but I passed on the deal. The Fuji just wasn't what I was looking for.

What are you looking for? Imo,the fuji is much better then the K2.

I don't want to be lost in the crowd of Fuji riders. I want to be a little different. I hardly know anyone that rides a K2, but a lot that ride Fuji.

So you want to be on a different bike thats not quite as good as a Fuji, right? I'm in a world of Treks and could care less.

How you feel about your ride is just as important as the actual quality of the bike ... stick with your gut and get the K2 even if it means waiting two months.

I've ridden both these bikes and while the K2 Mach 4.0 is a really nice bike, I personally would have chosen the Fuji Team... especially at $1200. The Fuji is a slight bit above the K2. However, geneman has a very good point and you should go with what feels comfortable both physically and mentally. Both bikes are quality bikes and I don't think you can really go wrong with either so go with what you like. In the end, as long as it's good for you to ride, that's all that counts.

Get them to knock a couple bucks off the K2 for the wait.
I used to work nextdoor to K2's warehouse (near Tacoma not Seattle), same building actually. I never really saw any trucks come or go though, I was inside woking most of the time but still it was kind of odd not seeing any that I can recall.

I think they are done making the '04 models and will bring out the '05 model next. You know what that means, higher prices! I don't think I want to play that waiting game. I have my eye on another bike, full Ultegra except the rear derailleur is Dura Ace! Schwinn Fastback Pro. That one should stand out in a crowd.

I've had Trek,Cannondale,Felt and the only reason i got a Fuji was i wanted steel and Ultegra and for $1099,i could'nt beat it. I've always have said that Fuji and K2 was a good bang for your buck bike,Fuji just being a tad better. I'm shocked you have that many Fuji riders. I ride almost everyday and have only seen 1 or 2 Fuji's. Then again,i have seen a few K2's.

I think the fact that REI carries K2s contributes to that. While, they're certainly not as popular as say Treks, people do end up going to REI because they may know enough not to get anything at a dept. store but not enough to deal with a LBS (I know plenty of LBSes carry K2s too... I bought my K2 MTB from my FBS) to buy bikes and REI is a well known chain in the US so if K2s are there, there's a good chance they'll walk out with one.
