Road Cycling - Ksyrium Elite? or something else?

Starting to think maybe these wheels aren't all that great. It's a newer set and have had to true the rear twice this summer and noticed the front has an area on the braking surface that is indented, no nicks or gouged spots, just kind of pushed in. Hmmm? ever see that happen? The front also is very out of true; not sure it can be fixed. What would be a step up from these wheels? something a bit lighter that is still strong, or is that not possible? seems like the older set held up better. thanks.

i bought the 04 elites this winter, have around 2500 miles on them and am just moderately satisfied with them. the front got knocked out of true pretty soon after i got them, now hub is loose and apparantly needs new bearings according to the LBS (they "see it all the time with these").

in general, they are solid feeling and have a responsive and nimble feel once you're up to speed, but it feels like they don't spin up very fast and are not especially lightweight.

i can't really recommend this wheel.

Never had to have them trued during a service (at least they never charged me 'cos they said it didn't need doing!). Equally, I came from an old Trek 1000 that had wheels more suited to a car, so maybe I don't know what a really "good" wheel is. Still, I can't say I have any complaints. When I spin the wheels without any resistance, they just keep going and going.

Maybe the quality changed? My first set went on my *other* bike last spring and I put over 3,000 miles on each wheel and they are still perfect this year. This new bike has the same kind of wheels the rear went out of true 2 times this year all ready and LBS just fixed the rim on the front wheel today! I only weigh 138lbs. Velomax is starting to look real good.

Campy Neutrons - 16,000 miles so far and have not been trued since I bought them. I've hit some potholes at a pretty good clib (enough to knock out my water bottles and cause an instantaneous flat). The hubs are user-serviceable but you'll have to take them to the LBS for re-trueing. I think that Magnus Backstedt (216 lbs.) races on 'em.

I just bought a set of Campi Vento G3 wheels, and took them for a short 30 mile ride on Friday. The wheels felt "wobbly" when riding over small patches of sand (I was riding on black top, and the sand was result of dried up puddles).
On a down hill, the bike did not feel the same it used to at 40 mph, and when taking corners it seemed the wheels flexed quite a bit (enough for me to feel on the handle bar).

I weight 205 lbs (95kg) and ride a Bianchi. I replaced the wheels due to an accident that cracked by previous Mavics and landed me with a dislocated shoulder. Hence, I'm not sure if part of this is just me...

Am I too heavy for these wheels??? Any advise???

I've been riding a set of the old Rolf Vector Pros for two years. Aero wheels, very low spoke count, very stiff. Nothing but reliable, never been trued in all that time. You can find these on ebay for $250-300 a set. RolfPrima Vigor is the current version, at $650 a set.

The other set I have are Campy Zondas - same 30mm aero rim as the Rolfs, but a little less stiff. Been trading off between them and the Rolfs the last season - they don't rattle my hands as much. So far so good with these wheels, no problems.

My son also has the Campagnolo Vento G3 and he is 6ft.3in. tall 215lbs and he has about 900 miles on them and they have stayed true , they seem to be bomb proof wheels but they feel real heavy.

I don't know. The wheels came standard on my Felt. It's a 2003.5 model (for some reason, the .5 does make a difference!). A friend just threw on a set of the Mavic SSLs and says that they are the best thing since sliced bread.
