Alright, how many here are accountants? Seems like there are certainly a few of you around here. What got you interested in accounting? Is it a good job? What is the best part of your day? It just seems like such a great job. What size firm do you work for or are you self employed? Can you ..............

Ok, now that I've tricked you into clicking the thread... what the hell is wrong with you people? What on god's green earth made you choose accounting of all possible things to be? Was your life just too fast paced and you wanted to slow it down to a snail's pace? Dear lord people... Accounting?!?

Just kidding. I love y'all. ;)

Something about the whole being ground like beef then being stomped on in the next 4-5 years of my life just seemed so appealing....

Do you know how you can tell if an accountant is an extrovert or introvert?

The extrovert accountant looks at your shoes when he's talking to you.

Not to Derail the thread, but a friend of mine who is a genius at accounting actually loved economics and thought about switching to major in it.

I thought of this joke (you may have already heard/know other variants):

Three professionals, an Engineer, a Physicist, and an Economist are ship-wrecked and confined to an island. They have one can of tomatoes to split between them and no can opener.

-The Engineer proposes that they should construct a can opener from whatever they can find... ie: sticks and vegetation.
-The Physicist draws out a plan to throw a rock with the right arc to bust open the can with minimal spillage.

-The Economist says: "First, let's assume a can opener..."

Chose it for the money :innocent:
I'm a CPA..I don't even have an accounting degree. Finance was my interest. Went back and took the classes necesaary to sit for the exam.
I don't really do much accounting. My official title is analyst. I actually do more programming and data mining then analysis.

Make of it what you wish.

Did you hear the one about the accountant that was involved in a wreck?

He sub-totaled his car.

My wife, crazylady, is now certified as a Forensic Accountant. That means fraud investigation, etc, and likely to lead to government employment through either the IRS, Treasury, SEC, or USDOJ.

(Y'all better be nice to us! :p)

Don't you go listening to that reckless alpine guy Mr. Stormcrowe. He's just trying to butter you up for some nefarious purpose of his own. Don't fall for it.

Instead, just have a seat. And a cigar. And a glass of this vintage brandy while I go tell the servants, er, umm, I mean the cook, uhh, I mean the caterer, yeah, the HIRED INDEPENDENT CATERER to bring you out a nice New York Strip with all the trimmings while you wait for me to find my completely misplaced accounting records. If you get tired, you can just take a short nap here in the guest villa, uhh, I mean the hammock on the back porch, while I continue looking for those tax exemption records. And, if you get bored I'm sure that a 2 week fishing trip on my luxury yacht, I mean my neighbors rowboat, would keep you entertained.

That's awesome. It seems like a really interesting field to me. My Professor for Intermediate I and II moonlighted as a professor, and worked for USDOJ during the day as a forensic acct.

He looked like a mix between Martin Sheen and Philip Baker Hall. The resemblance was uncanny.

That's the best one. I might be biased, though. My dad's a mechanical engineering prof...

Well I've look through the others before and either seem the best. I think I'm leaning towards mechanical. And no way in hell am I going to do civil. Not in this town or any other.

Life is good when your job can be outsourced to a spreadsheet. :p

You almost had me there, until you said "It seems like such a great job." Then I snapped out of it and remembered who was posting.

My SO's dad is an accountant - he keeps a spreadsheet of exactly how much gas he puts in his vehicles, how far he drives, and calculates the subsequent mileage. He does this every day. I don't know how long he has done this, but he just turned 65 this year. And yes, he enjoys doing it. He also likes playing Flight Simulator. He plans around-the-world flights and then just sits there, flying in a straight line, for hours. No turns, no altitude changes. Just autopilot. He also enjoys this.

I don't have to be. I have no investments, assets or financial connection to the USA at all.:p

this is why our economy doesn't work... too much time spent counting and not enough time spent producing....:twitchy:

You know why people become computer programmers, don't you?

---- they don't have enough personality to become accountants.
