I'm looking to put some nitto rb-021's in my fuji track comp but wasn't sure whether or not they'd fit with my stock stem. These (http://www.fujibikes.com/Specialty/Track/TrackComp.aspx) are the specs for the 2010 comp (I have the 2009) but I'm assuming they're the same. On the site they say the stem is 31.8 but the rb-021's are 26. Would it be possible for me to use some shims to get it to work?

i'd go with a new stem.

I was thinking about that, but then I would only be able to run my old bars after I switched out the stems. I think it'd just be easier to get some shims...

Shimming from something like 26 to 25.4 is cool, but from 31.8 down to 26 is a lot to do. I also think you should just get a new stem...

huh?

He wants the ability to use his old bars without having to replace the stem.

ok, I was confused. I thought he said he would only be able to use his old bars after getting the 26mm stem.

Does anyone else have any input on the shimming from 26 to 31.8? I know it's possible: Ben's cycle has this shim (http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=188_263_721&products_id=5243) in order to do that.

Yeah, you can. If you couldn't, chances are the shims wouldn't be sold anywhere -- specifically for shimming bike handlebars from 26 to 31.8mm.

But it really isn't all that much extra effort to switch from a 26 stem to a 31.8 stem. A little, yeah, maybe, but if you do it on a relatively regular basis, it also keeps your topcap in spec and just becomes regular maintenance.

26 to 31.8 shimmed is no big deal. I shimmed some Profile Airwings to a Thomson X2 for a year, no problems.
