Touring - New bike?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi. I am from Brazil, and just moved to Atlanta a month ago. I used to ride a mountain bike (gary fisher wahoo), but I want to buy here a road bike to use in town and to make small trips. The problem is that I just don't know anything about road bikes.. all my life I used a mountain bike!! Now I think it is time to change style, and get a more proper bike to my goals... Can someone help me in this? I have just $600 to spend... I don't know wich brands are good ones and, in each brand, wich model is better for me...
Can someone give me some tips?
Thank you and hello to all!!

Hi there, since many will recommend that you buy used, I'll go the new route.
I'm partial to steel (actually chrmoly). Untill recently, most new road bikes, steel or aluminum have been equipt with Brk.Lever.Shifters AKA "Brifters". You're probably not used to them yet so I believe that Down Tube shifters might be a logical choice given your target price. www.specialized.com (http://www.specialized.com) has many models. The Allez Double Steel
listed under road bike, then performance is your price. I like that bike.
Other cut-rate brands, dept. store brands as well as other styles of bikes are avail.
BUT you stated clearly "good" & Road Bike so that's what I focus on.
