I'm sure that the new DA10 speed chain shifts like a dream, that is IF I could ever get the damn pins in and out easily! I've been using a little standard chain tool for years and no probs until today. I couldn't get the damn pin out from the link! I busted a knuckle just trying to get the brutet force necessary to deal with this chain. Do you need a freaking heavy duty chain tool?!

Yes, I know that there are two types of pins in the DA10 chain. "Link" pins and "Reinforcing Connecting" pins. The DA spec sheet says to only remove the link pins, not the reinforcing connecting pins. How to tell which one is which?!

The connecting pins have a dimple in them. Shimano reccomends using their 10s tool. I would just get a 10s connecting link, then if you want to remove the chain to clean it you won't have the problem of rebreaking the chain. We are running them on several bikes with no trouble. If you go this route and get a little skip in the 11t, flip the connecting link over.

I put an Ultegra 9sp on my bike just today and had the same problem. I couldn't get the pin out to cut the chain to length. I used a pair of pliers to turn the handle on the chain tool, which bent it. That made it difficult to put the connecting pin in. I broke the guide off the first pin trying, but I eventually got it to work with the second. In a road test the chain shifts very well, but I still need to adjust my non-sti derailleur to reach the smallest cog.

Its a good thing that the pins dont come out easily....think about it.

By "connecting pin", I assume you mean "reinforcing connecting pin". Right? The Shimano tech sheet that came with the chain states to only remove the "link pins" not the "reinforcing pins". Thanks for the advice, on that one. **** man! Tried it all and still can't break the chain and put it back together!

Are we talking about the same chain? I have the new Dura-Ace (7800) 10speed chain. I absolutely cannot tell which pins on the new chain are "link pins" and which are "reinforcing pins". I assume 1/2 of the pins are link pins and the other 1/2 are connecting pins. But for the life of me I can't see a difference. Any more help on that is greatly appreciated. :(

And yet another tool?!?! I didn't know that Shimano had a special chain tool for the Shimano Dura-Ace 10 chain. Anyone know a website that has one for sale? Any other chain tool that will work?
