Classic & Vintage - ISO: rack and lights for Raleigh Sport

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As per subject -- I'm looking for an appropriate rear rack and headlight/tail light for a Raleigh Sport 3-speed I picked up for my wife. I have an extra Dynohub I can build into a wheel, but the lamp bracket is just crying out for a chrome teardrop headlight. The rear rack wouldn't have to be an official Raleigh rack; just something that would fit the bike and not look too outrageously out of place.

I'm curious to see what kind of styles are suggested for the rack for an old Raleigh 3-speed. I'm looking at giving my old Triumph (owned by Raleigh) a bigger share of commuter duty, and my modern clip on battery powered light and messenger bag just look out of place - which has me thinking about better looking lights and a rack.
Not to highjack too much, for that same project I have an old non-functional bottle-generator powered headlight and taillight that I'm thinking of going LED-crazy with and converting to a vintage-looking, modern-function set of lights.

Any rack made for hybrids will work for a Raleigh Sports.

I went with the classic Pletscher rack on our Sports:

It's not the best rack, but it looks good. I bought from Niagara, through Amazon, I think.
I mounted PlanetBike Blinkies to the rear rack with the mounting adaptor.

I have a Raleigh rack. It's unpainted though. PM if you're interested.

+1 on the Pletscher.
I wonder if the ones they are selling now are NOS from back in the day?
The Raleigh Sports were originally equipped with the Pletscher racks. You can easily find these on e-Bay and actually buy new from Pletscher. Do a little searching on line to find other suitable sources.
The Superbes had the Raleigh tubular racks painted to match the frame color. If you plan on building a wheel around your dynohub, the Raleigh rack would be a better alternative, IMO.

My 1972 Sports came with a Pletscher and as best I can tell it is the same as the ones they make today. If you want a decent light that puts out some light but looks retro get the B&M Retro (http://www.bumm.de/docu/1706e.htm). It is what I am using on my Twenty at the moment. Puts out a good bit more light than the OEM Raleigh lights.
