Hello there,

I recently purchased a CILO frame with Columbus Nebra tubing of ebay and have decided to make it my winter project and first complete build up of a bike. I believe I have all the tools I need and hopefully all the advice I will need from all of you on BF. I know this bike isn't vintage per say, but I didn't really think it belonged in the other forums either and because I'm more comfortable with you C&Vers I thought I'd post here. (note: frame is currently being shipped)

The frame geometry is as follows:
top tube: 58.5cm C to C
seat tube: 59cm C to C
rear hub spacing: 130mm
chain stay length: 40.5cm
head tube length: 180mm which takes a 1" fork
english threaded BB

Parts I have amassed so far:

Shimano 600 RD-6401
Shimano 600 FD-6401
Shimano 600 Brake Calipers BR-6403 SLR-S
Shimano 600 Crankset 172.5mm 39/53
Shimano 600 8 speed casette 12-23
Some sweet blue and yellow speckled (not sure how to describe it) bar tape to match the frame

Parts I need:

Shimano 600 Sti Levers (I could easily go for DA 7700 or Ultegra 5500 and just use my dad's extra 9 speed casette)
A Square Tapered Bottom Bracket
Clipless Pedals
Bars
A Fork*
A Headset**
Stem***

Soooo... some questions now:

*As per the suggestion of a BF member I am going with a carbon fork with an aluminum steerer. Based on the head tube length of 180mm I'm going to assume that I need about 220mm of steerer tube. Furthermore, the same BF member suggested a rake of up to 43mm which hasn't been to hard to spot. Does anyone have some reasonably priced forks that fit this description to suggest. So far I have been looking at some Kinesis forks as well as some Nashbar forks that are on sale. On top of this...should I go for a threaded or threadless fork

**As with the fork threaded or threadless?
***You get it

Basically I was wondering what you think would make sense, threaded or threadless.

Thanks in advance for any input. I'll probably be on these forums a lot in search of help, advice, and to post any progress. To keep things less cluttered in the forums I'll just use this thread from here on out. Thanks again...and here are some pics:

thanks! do you think I should go threadless or threaded?

I will always vote for threaded. Those threadless stems just have no class, too industrial looking! YMMV!

Haha, alright so I guess I'm going threaded.

Great bike, good start, sounds like you're on the way to a beauty.

If it were me:

-1" threaded CF fork from eBay. There's one out there right now that's long enough, or get one from nashbar or Performance. 2nd choice would be a new Tange chrome 1" threaded fork.

-1" headset, I'd look for a Shimano 600 6400 if you can find one. Nice headset, but you can go with a Richey or a Tange and be just fine.

-Black Cinelli quill stem, but I don't know the reach your need. The black stem ties in well with a CF fork, especially on a steel bike not sporting a lot of black. If you get a chrome fork, get a polished quill stem. Cinelli bars, 66-42 or so, plenty available.

-(If you don't go Cinelli, there are hundreds of combos)

-Yellow/gold bar wrap by Bontrager (gel) or Cinelli (cork) to accent the yellow lettering. The wrap y ou have is fine.

-8-sp DA or 600 STI's are great, but if you go 9-sp, you'll be fine with what you have, get the cassette and STI's and don't look back.

-Saddle depends on your, uh, "fit." and pedals are personal preference. The majority of folks here like either SPD (walkable) or Looks (not exactly walkable).

We will need to see pics so we can criticize whatever decisions you make. Not really. Good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I just received the frame a couple of days ago and have been amassing a collection of parts. Here's what I have so far (Pics to follow)

- Shimano 6400 front and rear derailleurs
- Shimano 6400 8 speed cassette
- Shimano 6400 172.5 double crankset
- Shimano 105 HP-1050 Headset (until I find a 6400, although I like the looks of this headset)
- Fizik Aliante Sport Saddle
- A FSA Aluminum (black) seatpost
- The bar tape as mentioned earlier
- Hubs/Rims wise I have a set of Rims that are mismatched at my dad's place. I believe they're bontrager, black spokes, maybe ultegra 6500 rims... one as the aero spokes, the other doesn't. They'll do for now

In need of:
- 8 Spd Sti or Downtube shifters (shimano 6400)
- Black stem and bars (I will look at your suggestions Robbie!)
- Yellow cable housing I'm thinking
- CF fork with and aluminum steerer (threaded)

Thanks for all the input. more updates to come!

Oh and Pedals... I got some Exustar E-PR70 pedals from Mountain Equipment Co-op. They're nothing great but should be fine and they were half off which is important to my not so padded budget. They came with cleats and all the necessary hardware and reviews weren't terrible either

looks like there is a problem with your permissions at imageshack. When I tried to go directly into an image file, I got a 403 (Forbidden). Not familiar with Imageshack, but it seems that you have them with a "for your eyes only" setting or something.

Ok, i'll post new images later this evening. I'll use flickr this time as I haven't had problems with them in the past. Thanks for the interest!

Yeah hurry up with the pics!!
J/K I've already been lambasted for not posting any myself. (Wife broke the old camera, re-allocating that money into a good set of tubulars and some new motorcycle parts)
I'm interested partly because I also have a Cilo. Mine is Columbus Aelle/Tretubi and came with Shimano 600.

Sorry for the long delay. I have taken the photos from the original ebay images that the seller had and uploaded them to flickr so I could post them here. I did try to take my own but these ones were far better than what I could take. I will also upload some images of the other components I have gathered in the next few days. Thanks!

Very pretty fillet brazed frame. Probably one of the last ones they made (they went out of business in 2002) unless someone bought the rights to their name (like Motobecane and Schwinn)

Thanks! After lots of thinking though and some advice from some people who have far more experience building/fitting frames, I think I may have come to the conclusion that no matter how I set up this bike it will not fit as well as I am hoping so I am considering sellin and/or finding someone to trade with. :(

Random update on this frame that I really haven't had any time for and am still considering selling in the spring. I was bored and still trying to find more info on the frame and used some french skills I picked up way back when to search for more information. I stumbled across a classified ad in french advertising what sounds to be the same frame. Columbus Nebra tubing and the era of parts are the giveaways. here's the link http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://course.annonz.ch/course/velo-de-course-cilo,-cadre-cromo-columbus-nebra,-10144&ei=gRgkS_KPJtWzlAfA4aSFCg&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=7&ved=0CCQQ7gEwBjgU&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dvelo%2Bcilo%2Bpro%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1C1CHNB_enCA328CA328%26sa%3DN%26start%3D20
