Road Cycling - How do YOU keep that exposeed stem bolt rust free?

So I look down at my stem when riding and that bolt stares up at me all rusty. OK so it's an ITC Binachi labeled stem. So I have take out the bolt and tried some psuedo-lube-cleaner and try to scrub the threads clean.

Well every climb I look down and and yeah it is still rusty...repeat...

So how do you keep your bolt clean and polished?

Maybe I just need a new bike.

I think you do need a new bike :)

Mines got a little rubber cap on it that blocks moisture.

I was just wondering the same thing. but my bolt hasn't rusted yet (although my rear fixed cog is starting too rust).

Steel wool the rust out, clear coat with Varathane or clear enamael.

Go to a hardware store and buy the same type of bolt made from stainless steel.

Use a little water displacment compound on it after you clean ,you may need to re apply every few weeks but that isn't to hard,(the WD in wd40 means just that, master oil is good too, wipe off excess so it won't turn goopy though)
A little carwax may do the trick as well(apply, let dry, buff off)
if you feeling real fancy clearcoat/varathane/laquer/paint it

Fill the allen head with clear silicone caulk. Over fill it slightly, and after it cures, slice the excess off with a razor blade. If you need to adjust your stem, pry out the plug, and refill when you are done.

I just replaced all the rusty ones on my bikes.... $.62 each for black annodized bolts at the hardware store. Just take your old one with you and match them up.

i repalce all the S/steel bolts (which will rust) with Titanium ones
Don't rust and they have a similar tensile strength.

not cheap though

Get it nickle-plated. Or buy SS/titanium bolts.
